ama0787
Like the title says why is the compressor used when heating the car? I would have thought it shouldn't be on but with the Suby defogging always kicks the compressor on and it also uses the compressor lots when in auto mode and heating the car. Anyone with info on this please explain. TIA, Anrhony
rao
Every auto ac system works this way. They all have an ac switch or an "economy" switch to turn the compressor off. The AC dehumidifies the air and keeps the windows from fogging up. The AC compressor will be shut off when the temps get very cold so that the compressor isn't damaged. cypher0117
When in auto mode the A/C light comes on but that doens't mean the compressor is on. It's just an available option for the climate control to use if needed. As for defogging the windows the compressor dries out the air so you're not blowing moist/damp air on cold windows. frank_ster
It keeps your balls from sweating when you have your snow pants on. ^ exactly ! and a/c realy doesn't take much power to harm fuel economy Now that's thinking out of the boxer! fyi all 05 + legacy's have built in code reader

If the a/c light is on your compressor is also on unless it's broke. So the consensus is it removes the humidity to help defog the air and also make it more comfortable. Thanks for the replies. burnout8488
If the a/c light is on your compressor is also on unless it's broke. No. In Auto mode, the auto-climate will cycle it on/off as necessary, while the A/C light remains lit.
