Almost?

Definitely cooler.

If all goes according to plan, I'll have my brembos installed by spring!

Wow, I didn't realize that I've had this setup for almost a year! I do still like it a lot. Far better than coilovers.

This is the first time in my memory I've heard of bilsteins + Rev C's being described as far smoother than the stock outback suspension. I've heard far more planted/firmer, but from BACS description is sounds like the ride quality itself is superior than stock.

I consider the stock outback to have amazing ride quality with just too much handling slop, roll, and pitch. If bilsteins + rev c springs maintains the ride quality, or somehow improves it, while making the car much more connected and eliminating the roll/squat/pitch....well that sounds perfect.

I'm evaluating my options now since my stock LGT suspension is pretty much worn out. I would like to go with a better top-hat and perhaps better springs w/ similar ride height. I like Konis, but from what I understand you basically use stock soggy tophats (unless you can upgrade to group-n's?).

ANyway, good stuff.

Phil is the suspension supple enough you would trust it to transport a newborn baby on a somewhat rough road? If so, I'm basically sold. OEM suspension is superior to my Dodge Durango when going over rough road or potholes. I don't mind somewhat stiffer/transfer of energy but it can't be as solid my LGT on KW2 coils rolling on 35 rubber.

Compromise, compromise...

Far better than which coilovers?

Better than the DA Enduratech's I had, the BC/Megan's I'd driven in other cars, and about the same as the KW's I've driven on a friends STi.

It's definitely stiffer, but overall I prefer the ride quality of my Outback now than I did when it was on stock suspension. On coilovers, it was far too stiff for a street car on the roads we have out here.

I am also not on rev-C springs any more. I'm on JDM Wagon Pinks. The pinks are perfect for the HD struts.

Define your rough roads. Here, there isn't much problem and I wouldn't have any concerns transporting a newborn/infant.

Right now, on BIG bumps and REALLY pockmarked roads, I hit the rear bumpstops, but that won't be the case much longer. I'm going to be lifting the car a bit to avoid that and it should be butter smooth.

Those are the only two current pictures I have. It's still a little low.

Tires are 225/55/17 Michelin Pilot Sport A/S+

BAC, any chance you could get a side photo a bit lower? I'd like to see the rear wheel gap. When the OB gets low, the rear wheel pushes up and forwards and I don't like that off-centered look :(

I guess with spacers it would work OK but I don't know if I like the idea of monkeying around with them.

I really want a better ride quality than with my Megans, but I also really like the stability the Megans give on sweeping highway curves and twisty back-roads.

How does the Bilstein setup compare from a stability standpoint?

I'll take a few pics tomorrow.

Stability is great. Steering geometry isn't ideal because it's so low right now, but the Whiteline RCK and my spacers will solve that. The spacers will be done next week, finally!

Thanks.

This is the problem with cobbling together Legacy stuff. The steering is off, the spacing is off, etc, etc, etc... :(

I wonder if I'd just be happy with softer springs for the coilovers? Or is it the damping that gives the car the rough ride?

Do you notice any tire rubbing in the front? They say the front wheels moves back a little when dropping a OB. Is there something that can fix this. I was constantly rubbing on the front and back inner wheel well when I was lowered on Koni yellow and rallitek springs.

Phil,

So you got your spacers made? What worked out to be the proper thickness to get back to 15.5" (or thereabouts) on teh pink springs? I'm trying to decide whether to go with specb front springs and lgt wagon rear springs mated with Bilstein HD's or use the pinks (more expensive).

Its my understanding that putting in the spacers and swapping the rear bumpstops to legacy bumpstops resolves the issues associated with bumpy roads and whacking the stops.

If your spacers are working - are you going to make additional sets or are you willing to share the drawings so i can make a set?

Jeff
