cazzilla
Hey guys, You can call me Calum. Im from Tauranga in New Zealand, Just moved here. 2 days ago i swapped my 1990 A31 Cefiro for a 1995 Legacy GT Station Wagon.. auto, 182,000 km and in pretty good condition! Im looking for a few cheap, moderate modifications (I build cars for a hobby) that i can do to give her more OOMF. I have heard a few rumors that these cars tend to "pack up" as we call it.. Can anyone either confirm or tell me otherwise? I have heard that i may need a rebuild sometime before 200,000 kilometers. I also heard from a mate who is mad on turbo cars (IM NOT GOING TO RISK THIS!!) that i can put a long screw down the boost hoses to create what we call a "Maori boost controller" anyone know if this cheap arsed attempt at a modification works? Any help is much appreciated as i do not know alot about turbo cars (this is obviously my first). I am very keen and motivated to have this puppy up and running real fast!! Cheers guys Calum

cazzilla
Haha, nice to meet some people on here, I have come from a similar Honda forum, called the CRXCommunity. Very cool, alot of pic whores and alot of very cool people, all of whom shared a common interest! When a car packs up, it gives in, blows something, blows up, either way, once a car packs up its off to the scrap heap. Im sure you love pictures of New Zealand Girls, maybe you should visit here, instead of looking you could be talking and touching haha. Here are your pictures, sorry about the dirty engine, i havent had the chance in between all of the rain to actually clean the car.. ive only had it for 3 days and its been raining since! http://i715.photobucket.com/albums/ww153/cazzilla1932/116596552_full.jpg http://i715.photobucket.com/albums/ww153/cazzilla1932/116596726_full.jpg http://i715.photobucket.com/albums/ww153/cazzilla1932/116597360_full.jpg http://i715.photobucket.com/albums/ww153/cazzilla1932/DSC03011.jpg http://i715.photobucket.com/albums/ww153/cazzilla1932/DSC03012.jpg my muffler-less exhaust which is still reasonably quiet. http://i715.photobucket.com/albums/ww153/cazzilla1932/DSC03013.jpg
amp27
thats quiet? you must have bad cats then. or stock headers
kaz98gt
if you mean that by packing up, yes there are issues with (as far as I know) usdm 2.5L naturally aspiarated engines. They eat through headgaskets like a fat kid through cake, and many need the gaskets swapped between 100k and 150k miles or they're just swapped out for a 2.2L. Usually people run the 2.5 into the ground and warp the heads if they can't tell what a leaking headgasket is. And what about new zealand girls? cazzilla
Ok well it does have stock headers.. dont know if the cat is even there. its not silent, its not over the top loud but its a nice mid range. im on a 2.0L twin turbo (as far as i know) so things should be good. I need to change my waterpump, cambelt and rocker cover gasket.. no signs of any being attended and car has typical smoke. (rocker cover gasket leaks oil commonly onto the manifold as far as i know) the new zealand girls... hmm, well come over here and see for yourself, Tauranga or Auckland.. any coastline and your nin for a real treat!! just DONT go inland, im sure they inbreed. Just be aware, the women here are great housekeepers.. (marry them, divorce them and they keep the house, the boat, the car, the lot!) Anyone know of any basic maintenance things i could do while doing cambelt? Calum
kaz98gt
When you go in for the cam/timing belt, you can hit the water pump, thermostat, tensioner, and any of the idler pulleys that might feel rough. I swapped out two of my idler pulleys because the bearings were shot on them. Also, if the 2.0 has MLAs, you could probably adjust the lash on them because they probably haven't been adjusted before. Ahhh incest! Stay away! And if they're as chill as you say the shoreline babes are, I don't think I'd want to divorce one any time soon
cazzilla
What is an MLA? and yeah, fun for a ride but dont go home for the parents to meet. Thats when your stuck.
kaz98gt
mechanical lash adjusters...i'm not sure if the 2.0t has those (probably hydraluic), but if they are mechanical and you're hearing a ticking, you could probably adjust those with the right lash specs.
