Zues Marine
no, you dont need anything higher than the lowest, or else its just wasted $$ unless youre a '96 2.5l, then you shouldve been running premium from the start :o
subikid90
E85 is 85% ethanol gas. Not higher octane. I havent seen anyone running it. I think it might be more money than its worth. -Subikid90 1997 Legacy GT 5spd & EJ251 w/EJ25D heads ~10.5CR 1998 Legacy GT Limited waiting for EJ22T hybrid swap
98LGTLover
I don't think it would be good to run it.. When our engines were designed people weren't planning on running E85. Subaru's still aren't designed to handle E85 ethanol.
I Donated broknindarkagain Posted June 15, 2010 I Donated Share Posted June 15, 2010 E85 is 85% ethanol gas. Not higher octane. I havent seen anyone running it. I think it might be more money than its worth. Actually E85 runs between 100 - 105 octane depending on the mix. But you are right about it being 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline. E85 will run in a standard gasoline motor, but it has a lot of water in it and its corrosive so it will eat up your seals. You need ECU modifications to be able to efficently run E85 since it burns differently then gasoline. Its not worth using anyways. Yes, its cheaper then gas but it does not have as much stored energy so you get a drop in gas mileage. I have an 01 Taurus Flex Fuel along with my LGT. My Taurus gets about 14MPG on E85 and about 19 on regular 87 octane gasoline. For a cost difference of about 30 cents a gallon, its not worth the drop in mileage....You wind up spending about the same no matter what fuel you use. Don't put E85 in your Legacy....it will tear it up -broknindarkagain My Current Project - Click Here COME AND TAKE IT "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." Baddog
I want more torque. Eventually when I go turbo it will be ran on E85 to help save it from pre-detonation on the EJ22 N/A block.
ineedmorepsi
You can use E85 to gain massive low end torque when you do Baddog

DN1911
on a turbo car it great if you build for it and tune for it! on an old NA car, don't even think it. won't help you any and can cause issues with older fuel systems
