Diesel Outback?

Probably not. Or not any time soon. Americans hate diesels, apparently.

A diesel, base model, manual transmission Impreza would sell like crazy, I think. Cheap, fuel efficient, AWD, what more could the "average person" want?

That stinks.

I would have LOVED an 09 Outback Diesel.

A turbodiesel would be hawt but diesel is unlikely. California approves very few diesel passenger cars and most cars in America are 50 state cars is my guess but I do not work in the automotive industry or know for certain.

California approved the Jetta TDI and the BMW 335d, right?

I'm driving a 2010 Outback loaner right now. Not a fan. It's not the 3.6R, but overall the feel is rubbish compared to the 07-09 models.

I'd get the TDI.

That was the only thing that stopped me, also.

Right. Price per mile drops through the floor with a diesel. Diesels will stop being worth every penny, when the price of diesel is double that of gasoline. That won't ever happen, so, diesels will always be awesome.

Diesel is cheaper based on supply and demand. I can almost guarantee you that when diesel cars become more mainstream over here in the states, the price of diesel will increase.
It's cool; I'm with the band

^when that happens, everything transported by 18 wheelers, the shipping will go up. what about the diesel generators on trains. Alot more things run on diesel then one thinks. Diesel engines in ships/boats.. Generators at hospitals. ECT.....

The price won't raise that much because it's connected to the gasoline price since they are produced from the same source. A lot of gasoline is created by cracking the longer hydrocarbons in the crude oil, so what really happens is that the refineries have to adjust their processes to meet the demand.

We have that over here. 6MT with 33/47 mpg city/highway. Price is about $24k + VAT.

MPG wouldn't be that high if it came here. The same 2.0l 6MT Saab 9-3 that is rated 37MPG in Sweden is rated 31MPG here.

That being said, i would still rock a turbo diesel subi.
