Yea I didn't focus on the eyes which I should've. This is when I got my 50 1.8 and was messing around with it at f/1.8.

gt_ltd: the ones I posted, yes cept the shark, the wife took that.

'

you learn as you go. i did the same type of shots when i first started and it is hard when animals move all the time.

you need a good zoom lens to get candid shots

i've got the canon d60 with canon 2x II extender and f/2.8 70-200L is zoom

1.6x2x200=640 but it starts to get soft when i hit around 400

i'd prefer a canon 20d or better

did all of you actually take the pics yourself?

Yes for me.

Cool thing about digital, as Red Beast said.....take a bunch and sort through the good ones. Professional photographers have always done that, but the average consumer didn't because film processing was so expensive. Digital allows you to see instant results so you can fool with staging, composition, camera settings, lighting and angle.

I must have taken almost 800-900 from my time in Patagonia.....in the end, most were 'snapshots', but a few handfuls were worthy of sharing. My fiance works in commercial printing - she made calendars for me, and enlarged the higher res shots to large print size. Several hand on my walls in nice custom frames. :D

a good inkjet printer will do wonders on a 8.5 x 11.

buy a printer with seperate ink cartridges. i had a epson 4 color c82 which was cheap and gave great printouts. i recently bought a epson 7 color stylus photo r800. very small increase in output quality. in the end i could have saved $400 smackers.

in the beginning i used gloss paper until i saw a print out on epson professional enhanced matte paper. great stuff. sharpness increases.

only use it with an epson printer and resample you images to 300dpi (max), 8x10, make sure jpg compression is 0 or off. a little unsharp goes a long way.

I get to use an HP DesignJet5 for the big stuff....up to 48" minimum dimension. Matte paper with a hi-res, color corrected image looks great.....not sure of the resolution, but at that size, nobody looks close enough to see the ink composition. It's 7 color too. We have an HP Photosmart 7550 for the small prints at home.....meh.

your inkjet understands 250 -300 dpi without haveing to interpolate.

anything higher just takes time to reiterpolate and it may makes the pic worse not better.

your pic needs to be 300dpi x output size. so if the printout is 30 x 42 it's still 300 dpi. and it's one big file. 340 megish uncompressed 17 megish jpg

we have xerox 8825 plus scanner $30,000

laserjets 4600, 5500 (11x17)

inkjet 1700 sux

boss ask's what a designjet goes for every 6 months but we really don't have any production use for it.

I have a trained pro-fessional on staff to figure all that out for me. She has $10K drum scanners, calibrated monitors in a dark room and a couple G4's on her desk....I just tell her what pic and what size and she does the rest.

Most of mine were taken with my first digicam - A Nikon CoolPix 950. I have a Nikon 4500 now.....double the resolution and better color. I want a new Nikon, but use it so infrequently vs. my Sony DSC-U30, I can't justify it.

Here are a few of mine. I actually do a little bit of freelance sports photo... mainly skiing, but a few other sports.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on these!

FYI - Canon EOS 20D, EF 28-135 f/3.5-5.6 IS or EF 70-200 f/4.0 L (an amazing, incredible, and overall wonderful lens for a decent price), and a small Cessna flown by a friend, when necessary.
