morganluke
Cost me $15 for a second hand oval badge (off a 98 Forester which had a greeny tinge to it - matches perfectly!) And $5 for the 'Liberty' badge of a 95 Liberty from the wreckers. Mesh was free from a mate's offcut & used my original grille All up = $20 Couple of $ for paint + sandpaper + glue etc but you get the idea! http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu177/mrgnluke/IMG_0019.jpg
subikid90
^^That's what I want to do to my grill. Did you cut the inside of the grill out then glue the mesh in? -Subikid90 1997 Legacy GT 5spd & EJ251 w/EJ25D heads ~10.5CR 1998 Legacy GT Limited waiting for EJ22T hybrid swap
morganluke
Yup. Shouldve taken progress pics essentially it went like this: -Cut out the inside of the grille with hacksaw -Sand back the inside so its all smooth Now you can either: -Bog it all around -Prime it up ready for painting (optimum), or -Simply spray paint it. I did this and it didnt work as well (Sun damage got the better of it over a few months) Continuing: -Cut out mesh a little larger than required (Mesh originally purchased from local auto shop) -I created little tab-like sections in my mesh to wrap around the back of the grille. -Silicone the tabs to the grille (i used aryldite and didnt hold very well) -Wait at least 1-2 days for it to fully set -Reinstall onto car -WIN Then you can choose your own badging. I left it badgless for a while. Then just the 'Liberty' badge and towards the end, i added the oval one too and i really liked it. Car is sold now but was a great project

jay-d
http://i43.tinypic.com/10elmb8.jpg http://i39.tinypic.com/f3rehw.jpg OE grill modified to look like JDM. I cut out all vertical plastic bits.. used fiber glass to fill in any gaps, sanded, and painted Used a metal rod in the back of the centre piece along the grill to give it stability. kaz98gt
yeah I'm afraid of how mine might look without the fiberglass filling in those vertical cross piece holes. then again, it might be hardly noticeable? and morganluke, was your grill like the jdm one where it's only the straight across piece, like above? Also, do you think I could mount the mesh along the front lip of the grill right below the chrome? There's a little recession back into the grill between the plastic and chrome where I might be able to mount the mesh and cover the front of the vertical cross piece holes...any ideas? Blaeven
hey morgan, fancy seeing you here... here's a picture of mine, it's the AUDM one with the chrome bit painted black... http://photos-e.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-ak-snc1/v2745/219/37/699056900/n699056900_2055938_6537969.jpg http://photos-f.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash1/hs444.ash1/24497_322697286900_699056900_4030805_4328088_n.jpg
morganluke
Hey Tristan! Hows it goin?! Kaz98gt, no it is an AUDM grille that i modified. It did have tabs running vertically which i cut and sanded back. If u find a way to mount the mesh like that than go for it! Personally i like it better sitting further back and i would imagine its easier to attach that way as it wraps around the back of the grille. But thats just my personal preference. kaz98gt
blaeven, liking the look! yep, I'd prefer it back too, but I don't have the time or tools to do the job properly like you did. damn, it looks sharp on your car though! my plan is to keep the stock grill as a backup when I do sell the car (that'll be the day ) and I caved on a rfrb grill from japan. sweet bd/bg grill with the mesh and everything, and apparently they're very very hard to find. i'll get pics up once it shows up, and I might put a blue badge on just for kicks (not my car, but the grill is like that with a RFRB badge in the lower right) http://www.writerguy.com/primitive/images/img-body/subiesportlegacy02.jpg
