FP 68HTA install with pics

collegemt

Recommended Posts

I am installing my new FP 68HTA this weekend on my 06 STI:

So far I have removed the VF39 and plan to install the 68 HTA tomorrow. I am not exactly sure what size vacum lines to use, the stock VF39 vacum lines and T fitting look too small, any suggestions?

I will post more pics tomorrow after the install:

If anyone has any ideas for vacum lines and if I should reuse the stock pill that would be great:

Thanks,

Adam

I got the intercooler on (finally) and finished wrapping up the install. I took the car for a test drive on ) wastegate and did some logs. Everything seems ok for now:

Here are some more pics I took along the way:

This is where the problem started, I couldn't get the Intercooler hose to line up with the turbo correctly, after 2 ours of wrestling, I got it.

Here is my most recent 4th gear WOT log. Boost comes on very quick and it holds much better u top compared to my VF39.

Currently the HTA is making nearl identical power and torque compared to the VF39, but the HTA makes a bit more up top. I assume when we increase boost some more it will begin to overtake the VF39 over the entire power curve. We are only running 60% WGDC or less since we are in the early stages of tuning.

The thing about this turbo is the way it responds duringdownshift wots and 1st-4th gear pulls. It feels like it can build boost much quicker and higher rpms.

All tuning has been done by Mickeyd, he is a awesome tuner.

The car is running on 100% E85.

Comments welcome!

Might as well throw some pics in here from earlier today:

So far I have been very impressed with this turbo. It holds boost very well up top, bu we still are increasing the WGDC to hit target boost. SO far on 60% wgdc holding 16psi at 6800 rpm and loving it. The car has a much wider powerband now.

It will be interesting to see how she does on the dyno and at bandi next season.

Wow. I thought I loved my turbo on my 2.0. I can't imagine on your STi 2.5! did you say you're just running E85?

I have 2 maps on mine, 91 oct, and E85. I just switched out to 91 oct. I've heard E85 gives some trouble starting in cold weather. Of course that's just what I heard. Any issues with yours starting in cold?

Hey Steve! You should come to the next meet... whenever that is. collegemt (and enthusiast) installed my VF52 on your old car. I still love it.. You can take mine for a spin and I definitely need to take Adam's out for a spin too. Still got that pretty home down in Larkspur?

Awesome! I'd love to cruise my old LGT. You can drive my 92x and see how it compares with the upgrades both of us have done!!

Let me know when you guys meet next (since you can't make it this sunday) and i'll show up as the black sheep 92x. :)

its nice to see a sti w/o a huge ass fart can on the back

I am trying to keep a somewhat stock looking exhaust. I don't like the huge ricer looking ones. I might even decide to paint my exhaust black for a even more stealth look.

Here a recent 4thb gear wot log from yesterday. The car is know making more power than the VF39 over the entire power curve. Still need to increase wgdc some more and work on the slight boost oscilation.

I believe the only thing out of the ordinary is his air filter (perrin panel filter).

But the sticker says K&N! That's cool if nothing else changed b/w turbos that would change g/s. Wonder when Adam converted to E85 in the process...

You are correct, it is K&N.

I remember giving him a hard time when we were installing the turbo. :)

Hey Adam can we get a close-up photo of that sticker? I'm afraid it might be a little off-center, which might cause the car to pull to the right.

And also... next time you guys do a turbo install I call dibs on putting on the sticker. Even with my limited mechanical abilities I think I could handle it. ;)

Mickey doesn't really need me to log maf, but my most recent maf was about 250g/s. Intake scaling stayed the same after the turbo install.

I switched to E85 about 2-3 months prior to the turbo install, so only thing that changed was the turbo.

Infamous what kind of boost do you think I should target peak and at redline??
