2006Specb122
OK so I have 68,000 miles and the brakes have never been touched. I'm about to do the first major brake job. I already have the rotors and pads picked out and they are on the way. DBA 4000 series slotted, Hawk HPS pads. Only thing left is to track down some fluid. I prefer to find something locally that I can go back to in a hurry if needed. However, I've checked some of the local auto supply places and haven't found anything other then cheap generic brand fluid. Other than using the Subaru specific stuff what would you recommend for this setup? Will the valvoline high performance synpower be a good fit? Where can I find that stuff locally? Any info will help. Thanks all!
magnetic1
They dont make SynPower anymore. Try motorcycle shops for Motul RBF600. Dunno where you are in NorCal, but a lot of race shops would carry ATE, Castrol, Motul, Wilwood, or similar race fluids. Of course, you could also order from us. But youre about 5 days away via Ground. And you cant ship this stuff Air. Free Sonax Cleaner Deal http://www.brakeswap.com Carbotech, Hawk, PFC, DBA Rotors, Motul, Wilwood, Castrol... Great service. SubyShop.com
This is pretty good stuff.. autozone or local stores carry it http://www.valvoline.com/products/consumer-products/brake-fluids/dot-3-4-brake-fluid/
JoeFromPA
Honestly - unless you are tracking the car and driving quite hard (I mean regular high speed hard braking, repeated), just head to your local pepboys/autozone/walmart and look for some decent DOT 3/4 fluid. It'll be anywhere from $4-8 for a liter. Most of those places will have at least one "performance" option with a higher wet boiling point than most regular DOT 3 fluids. If you really are using the brakes hard, more and more local shops are going to be carrying either Motul or ATE Super Blue.
