DeltaSniper
i am not that good with cars yet so i am wondering if its possible for me to get a short ram intake for a N/A legacy 2010? skimming through other threads i read that a cold air intake for a 2009 would fit a 2010 legacy and i read that short ram intakes provide better fuel economy? (i may be misinformed) hence my decision to start looking for one if its better than a CAI if it even exists for an N/A Legacy... yes im somewhat of a noob so please forgive me LOL
PGT
intakes don't give better mileage.
DocHolladay23
I know on my N/A 07 you couldn't do anything more than a K&N or other brand high flow panel filter, any short ram or cone for that matter would cause the MAF to throw a code [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] You want stickers? DeltaSniper
so is it advisable just to get a drop in air filter?
DocHolladay23
that's what I did, K&N drop-in and I took all the baffling that goes into the block off and made a straight pipe from the MAF piece to the block outta flex tube and an Impreza intake tube, gave it a nice lil woosh [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] You want stickers? NORULZleggy
Man just get rid of the black stock intake hose, keep the stock air box and put a nice drop in filter. Are car's run very good with the stock air box, and smooth out the air with a new intake hose. do not waste your money on some crazy short ram or CAI. The intake is a CAI. Cliffs: Keep stock box + drop in filter get new intake hose
blackbeltbenji
Where would I get a new intake hose to replace the OEM? I know pep boys has those custom kits, but I wasn't sure what would and would not work. Thanks!
Jmhm17
honestly just get a drop in filter, smothing out the pipe will not do anything but make it look nice, and you will loose torque if you take that box away ontop of the TB. but if you really want to spend the money on it then do it right and get the AVO intake for the GT, it bolts up fine, but your not going to gain any noticable HP, and your definetly not going to get any better MPG. save your money, like most said already just get the drop in filter. blackbeltbenji
I already did the K&N drop in, may switch to AVO dry filter though for less maintenance, and to avoid oils causing issues down the road. Honestly though, I would just like to hear the engine the same way I hear it when driving the 06 Legacy 2.5i. I'm not sure why, but in that car the engine is a lot louder, I'm not sure if this has to do with resonators, insulation, or the fact that its a M/T? Jmhm17
im not sure on the 2010's but if the intake box is the same there should be a silencer you can remove to make the intake more pronounced under load, but then its just gona sound like a civic with a cone filter on it. http://legacygt.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2999171&postcount=14 ^^ here are some pics of the AVO 2.5GT intake installed on a 2.5i
blackbeltbenji
I'll take a look for the silencer. The 2006 I referred to is my father-in-law's car, and it is bone stock, silencer and all, and it has the pronounced subie growl, it's the 2.5i with M/T. blackbeltbenji
Do you or anyone else, have any pics of where the silencer might be? Is it within the tubing, or is it a resonator box?
burnout8488
Silencer is underneath the airbox. Don't remove your torque chamber under any circumstances, its what is connected to the throttle body. If you remove it, your car will be slower. The AVO short ram for the Legacy GT will fit 05-09 cars. If '10 didn't see a change, then it will fit your car too. It retains the torque chamber and has its own MAF housing, and will work perfect. Paul from AVO installed one on the Project Outback.

sulk
If you're coming out to any of the local meets, let me know I can talk to you about the various options. I'll try to come out to one if you go (sauga one would probably be best) as I've looked into similar options for mine.
