PPower

When comparing apples to apples the Outback XT only weighs 80 pounds more than the GT. As a matter of fact, the Outback XT with 5MT weighs 20 pounds LESS than a Limited GT wagon with 5MT. Plus the XT has a 4.44:1 final drive vs. the GT's 4.11:1.0.
So the OBXT uses the same tranny as the FXT? Intresting...
No. The 5 gear ratios are different, but both the OBXT and FXT get a 4.44:1 final ratio. The OBXT has the same gearing as the JDM Spec B but with taller tires that exactly compensate to be equal to the GT's 4.111:1 gearing. The advantage could be that you could then put GT sized track tires on the OBXT and get the tires rotating as quickly as a Spec B but with the weight penalty. Also, gtguy has brought up that past OB have not been able to be lowered, so this new OB may not be able to be lowered either. Without the proper suspension, the tiny gearing benefit with smaller tires becomes moot.
Drift Monkey
Intresting, although as a counter point, I wouldn't see why smaller tires with upgraded suspension components and NOT being lowered would be a bad thing, other than perpahps looking asthetically unappealing. If the OBXT and FXT share only the 4.44 FD then which tranny actually has the shorter gearing despite the FD? This could get intresting with tranny swaps and what not...

If you're looking at using the car for handling but with those characteristics, lowering the center of gravity and for a better look/stance is key. Drift Monkey
Of course but What i'm trying to say is that it couls still be a good handler despite the ride height. Anything is possible with tuning.
