Tail Light Overlay with oval cutouts

i like 4 if it's not being really squeezed in. the top/bottom would look good being different sizes.

do these have any effect on what the tail lights and brake lights look like when they are operating at night?

not really any effect on the light output at night. The holes let out plenty of light and the reverse cut outs make it so you retain full functionality of your reverse lights.

Here is a very helpful post by TSi+WRX that has some shots at night with these overlays on: http://www.legacygt.com/forums/showpost.php?p=255198&postcount=87

thanks for the thread link. i was more wondering if the holes actually made dots of light or if it just bled through, which I can tell through the pictures. that's just what i was looking for.

that smoked laminx stuff, how does the darkness of the film compare to the darkness in those pictures?

I recently took off my tail light tint because a d***head cop pulled me over with an attitude just for having them. He said "I will hunt you down for the next two days and if you don't take them off, I will give you a ticket" and knowing him... he would. Most of the cops around town are familiar with my car since I volunteer for EMS and firefighting. I've been pulled over for them once before by a different officer in town, but he let me go and didn't care thereafter. I'm pretty pissed off though considering it made my GRP look mean as hell from the rear. Is it true that if I were (God-forbid) to be rear-ended it would be my fault considering the idiot who hit me "couldn't see my brake lights" because of the tail light tint?

What about making these with out the holes, am I the only one that thinks the holes are too much and look a little "unclean"?

Thanks for all the interest guys. I suppose that I can make some without the holes custom if anyone wants one. I have full access to a waterjet x-y table and all I would have to do is delete the holes in the program.

As soon as this stupid material comes in I can perfect the manufacturing setup and get some going. I am also working on some "Optic Blue" mirror overlays, similar to the Prova's, but obviously not as much $$$. I'll keep you posted on my progress.

think you could do turn signal and spoiler brake light tint?

all that's available for those are bulk, cut-your-own-size sheets.

Would be interested in a package order for taillights, blue mirror overlays, turnsignal & spoiler brake light tints.

+1 I'd be interested in the same thing! I've been waiting for someone to do this for a while. Where do I send the deposit??? lol

Will the material for the brake lights be slightly longer so that they "tuck in"? I'd like to avoid being able to visually see where the tint ends...except for around the reverse lights obviously.

What I'm trying to say is put me on the list!

If someone, God forbid, rear-ends you, could the person blame it on you since he "couldn't see your brake lights due to the tail light tint"?

That would depend on the state. In OH as long as you can see the brake lights from 100 feet or something you are good.

i'm interested, but really want to know how the darkness of the lamin-x stuff you got compares to the darkness on that blue leggy with black wheels that is in all the pictures. hoping it's not much darker than that one.

I'd be interested.....I had these before on my car for 3+yrs but one of my lights had to be replaced after being rear-ended (not because of the overlays and no, I didn't have any issues w/insurance). I just passed inspection so I was thinking about getting these again - especially if they are cheaper than the Jinsu ones.

Here are a few pictures of the first "prototype" R&D part cut out of the good stuff. It still needs some tweaking, such as making the circles fit exactly in between the horizontal bars in the lights. Also my edge gaps need some tweaking, but it should only take me one more iteration to get it perfect.

Let me know what you guys think. I should have a final part for final pictures in a few days! The darkness of the tint really depends if you are looking at it in the sun, these pictures were taken in the shade, so it looks pretty dark, but in the sun it appears slightly lighter.

I will also offer a version without the circle cutouts if people want.
