***DISCLAIMER***I know there are multiple posts on DP Installs, but I have never taken the time to do a write-up for all of my various car/Jeep projects. So, I thought the DP would be a great time to start. So, if you are reading this please bear with me as I take a stab at this write-up idea.

Last night I installed my COBB DP and went Stg 2 with the COBB OTS Stg 2 93 octane map. I am using this OTS map before I decide to get a protune with the AP or go OS (Open Source). Anyway, here goes:

First off, here is the engine bay where I started.

Then, I removed these screws from the main engine cover:

Unscrewed, but not removed:

This is what is looks like with the main engine cover removed:

There total of 5 bolts and one hose clamp holding the TMIC in place. Here is the hose clamp hidden below all the hoses on the DR side.

Next, with the TMIC removed, it looks like this:

There are a total of 8 bolts that mount the heat shield which are all easy to get to and 12mm. Here are some pictures of the heatshield removed. Pictures of it modified to come later.

The next step is to move the 5 fasteners for the actual downpipe connection. There are 3 nuts and 2 bolts with nuts, all at 14mm sizes. As said in other installs they can allbe reached from the top with various sockets and wrenches.

Next is the bolt that mounts to the transmission. In most aftermarket DPs this is not used again. It is also 14mm.

A view from the top:

Further down the DP, there is a bolt and bracket just near the catalytic converter shown here:

Additionally, there is the O2 sensor that also needs to be removed. This can be done with a 22mm open ended wrench, metric O2 socket, or adjustable wrench. Mine was torqued on quite tight and needed a little breaker bar.

Lastly, there are the two spring bolts that connect the DP to the Y-pipe, in my case the SPT cat back.

The downpipe is removed fine through the bottom of the car. I just had a jack used on one side near the passenger driver door jack point. Here is the stock and the used COBB DP side by side. Notice the flat plate for the stock DP at the wastegate location.

Here is what it looks like from the engine bay with the DP removed.

Here is the COBB DP in place with the top two bolts mounted to hold it in place. Notice my rubber glove to protect the turbo inlet from the TMIC.

Here is how I modified the stock heatshield to fit around the COBB DP. I wanted to keep the curve of the metal to bend around so that it was able to maintain some of its rigidity when I remounted it.

Here is what it looks like after it is cut. I used the combination of a hack saw and a dremel to smooth out the edges.

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y256/monkonmonk/2008%20Legacy%20GT/COBB%20DP%20Install/IMG_1408.jpg

Lastly, just follow the steps backwards to mount everything up. The hardest part I had was mounting the DP back into the bracket that was near the catalytic converter. Other than that, it took me about 3 hours including flashing the Stg 2 map and a test drive.

Hopefully someone will find this helpful and Enjoy!

I have actually not driven the car since the test drive. I can try to take some vids in the next day or so of in car riding. Some full throttle and some with hwy cruising. For the test it was not that bad, but with the SPT only I had some complaints from some RR seat passengers. Conversations were never affected.

If it is too bad, I am considering some sound deadening modifications because I like to be able to hear my exhaust, a.k.a. removing the SPT mufflers. Besides, I don't ride in the back.;)

My wife has not yet ridden in the car, but that will be the ultimate test!

very nice writeup. Very helpful. I have heard about the process many times and seen SOME pics.. but nothing so complete as this.

Well, I have a lot more photos that I did not include. If there is something that someone did not see or a step I skipped, let me know and I will add it in. I don't want to think that anything is assumed.
