dbedigrew
Hopefully I can get some good input from you knowledgeable people out there. If I get my car tuned by Revolutions in CO at a mile plus elevation, will my ecu adjust its parameters to run that tune effectively with the 900-1100ft elevation at home? Any info given will be appreciated.
rao
Unless they are a bunch of hacks there should be no problem at all. Rob IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR CAR YOU SHOULD NEVER DRIVE IT
dbedigrew
Thanks, that's what I figured, just trying to make sure before I spend the money.
rao
If it hasn't been tuned yet, then be sure to tell them that the car will be used at the lower elevation. Rob IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR CAR YOU SHOULD NEVER DRIVE IT
dbedigrew
I'm planning on getting it tuned in a couple of months when I go to visit family. Right now I am stg 2 with a PDX etune.
Legend
Unless they are a bunch of hacks there should be no problem at all. Better log it. You can run higher boost at lower altitudes. My '05 LGT My '07 Supercharged Shelby
dbedigrew
I know it could run higher boost with the denser air that is why I was wondering if the ecm would adjust for the extra air. I would like to learn how to log and tune it my self, but no laptop and it is my only functioning vehicle.
Zed 2.0
When I asked Revolutions this question about the tune they did for me, they suggested reverting to Cobb's OTS map at sea level. YMMV.
Legend
I know it could run higher boost with the denser air that is why I was wondering if the ecm would adjust for the extra air. It will, but probably not for optimal power/safety. With the same exact map you should see higher boost as elevation decreases. The ecu monitors Patm and as altitude decreases the correction (decrease in target boost for higher elevations relative to sea level), will lessen. So you think it would be much better if I try and find a tuner at my altitude or learn to tune it my self. I noticed that COBB recently came out with an update that will allow you to data log with your AP (therefoe no need for a laptop). Has anybody used this yet? Legend
It could be just fine. You just don't know if it is or not. If you received a tune that walked the line between max power and max safety, chances are that a significant change in elevation has possibly caused either power or safety (or both) to drop off the previously set ideals. That fine line has likely moved. I wouldn't get another tune without evidence that you need one, personally. Get a few logs and upload 'em here. We can help you make an informed decision. dbedigrew
Once I figure out how to do some logs I'll post them, but that might be a little while.
Infamous1
I wouldn't do it, there will be too many unknowns that would have to be tuned for.
dbedigrew
thanks for the input infamous1. You seem to be one of the tuning gurus on here, so you think I only have to viable tuning options? 1. Find a tuner at my altitude 2. DIY
Infamous1
Tune it yourself, only if you are comfortable doing so. There also is the option of E-Tuning (not an OTS map) from a vendor. Then of course finding a tuner at your altitude.
