TrueWhiteBoy
I was at a party last night and heard a couple of people talking about a cheap, programmable GPS that you could install the Garmin OS on. Has anyone else heard about this? I'm trying to google it now, but failing oh so horribly

Has anyone else heard about this? I'm trying to google it now, but failing oh so horribly All GPS are somewhat programmable. Why would you wanna install the Garmin OS...but not buy a Garmin unit ? Garmin finally made the Garmin Mobile PC (or whatever it is called) available as a PC software. So maybe this is what you had in mind. In which case, you need a CarPC. https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=13484#versionTab And then, there is this: https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=134&pID=10573

VtspecB
I've got Garmin installed on my smart phone. Have you tried Google maps on your smart phone? http://www.google.com/mobile/default/maps.html It works as a Nav, the satellite views are available as well as the street view when in an area that has street view (e.g. NYC), the search feature is superb. I have it on my Nokia E71 ... it is t!ts in the mouth!!!!! BTW - the best part, it's free FTW my vBGarage

VtspecB
Love the E71! (side note have you tried Mobbler) Nokia maps, only problem was that they wanted some un-godly amount for an annual license in order to have the directions and search feature, does ~$129 sound about right? How much does the Garmin cost? Do you have a link? I'm a cheap skate, I love the fact that Google is free ... trying to save money for mods, you most know that bug. my vBGarage

I'm not sure about the cost of the software. I don't pay for them, it is a company phone, and I'm encouraged to try out software on it. heh... Took a look at the garmin site: http://www8.garmin.com/mobile/smartphones/?__utma=1.826706263358170600.1229357626.1231272924.1231276680.4&__utmb=1.4.10.1231276680&__utmc=1&__utmx=-&__utmz=1.1231276680.4.2.utmcsr=google|utmccn=(organic)|utmcmd=organic|utmctr=Gamin%20XT%20S60&__utmv=-&__utmk=162508220 I'll look into Nokia maps... camber
It's a $100 for Nokia Maps North America for a year, but to be honest I would shell out for the full blown World wide version @ $200. It's pricey but good... I know that there are hacked version of Tom Tom and Garmin floating around for S60 3rd edition.
VXCL
If you shop around you can find garmin 2xx units for $100 every now and then MAYHEM #122/22 STS NNJR SCCA AUTOX4U.COM XENON RETRO GUIDE
CzarDestructo
If you shop around you can find garmin 2xx units for $100 every now and then Just make sure you buy them new, otherwise 9 times out of 10 you're buying a stolen one and supporting crime. Had the window of my 6 month old Legacy smashed out for a POS $130 Garmin. Window cost 2x as much to replace.
TrueWhiteBoy
I have a Blackberry 8320, which has wifi, but no GPS, it is able to use triangulation to find me, but still kinda far off from a GPS. I figured, find a blank GPS and either load some Garmin maps, or maybe a good custom OS w/maps

That's what I use to do with my old E61i.
