Seems to be a combination of diminishing homeland security concerns and fiscal pressure. The speed limit on the ramp to the Ted Williams Tunnel westbound is low - it might even be 25mph (don't recall). But it's a two lane, downhill ramp. Several times lately in the late afternoon - still daylight - there's been a LIDAR set up all the way to the left of the booths. Folks hit as much as 60 there, in which case you'd be looking at a $200 to $300 fine. This is in addition to the quite routine laser or radar set up in the tunnel after the Tobin bridge inbound.
