I think photoshopped photos shouldn't be counted at all. They are awesome pix don't get me wrong but it isn't the true beauty of the car and it isn't a great photograph its great editing......just my opinion though.

Most of the photos last year were photoshopped in one way or another... All of the HDR photos are edited photos also so that leaves the calender with only a couple of months then, not a whole year. I think that photoshopping cleans the photos up and brings more of the beauty of the car out. Makes the photo stand out more. I'm not saying to put something on your car thats not originally there or edit out a background and change it. I could edit the photo right from my camera using curves and histograms but photoshopping does the same thing and makes it much easier. If it's a tasteful photo, go for it. Not everyone takes perfect photos - backgrounds bleed out, they're underexposed, overexposed, white balance off, etc. While the photo taken would have the perfect setting, angle, etc., if it had any of the previous things I mentioned it would make it a bad photo. This is where photoshopping would come into play. 99% of all magazines you read have photoshopped pictures in it so why would this be any different? Anyone agree or is this just a rant?

Okay, just in case you're not taking HDR photos, I guess I should just go back to good ole fashioned photography

i agree. in my opinion, photos don't reach their full potential unless they're PSed. not to be rude, but a lot of the pictures in this thread can definitely benefit from being PSed. a lot of them are either under/over exposed and the white balances are off.

That's true, but there's always a point where photoshopping a picture too much takes the spirit out of what's trying to be achieved in a certain picture. HDR is traditionally a photographic technique (bracketing multiple shots and combining them), but nowadays people use photoshop (and only 1 shot) to achieve those results. A good looking HDR doesn't have to look fake... The goal of an HDR is to gain the details from shadows and highlights you may not normally achieve with one shot. A HDR from one shot isn't gaining much more detail than it's already showing. People are just obtaining the "look" of HDR.

But whether or not photoshopping is out of place in this calendar.... that's up to the judges to decide. I honestly prefer to keep it more natural looking.

All of the pictures I posted that were HDR were between 3 and 6 shots at 1/3 ev... I use Photomatix Pro to do the HDR and it gives you an option in there to make a pseudo HDR image with just one picture. I think it has to be a RAW image though. For DocHolladay's pics, I thought he took some really good pics, they just needed to be "cleaned up" a little. No picture is perfect.

IMO I think this picture

looks better than this picture

i mean if its going in a calendar, i would think an amateur photograph is going to get touched up to balance it out, no one is a pro here (i think anyway). the minor touch ups like bringing out the colors over the haze (in the picture above) brings it closer to what you would actually see in real life. the person's setup of the scene should have more of a factor in the decision anyway...

Although I agree with you that the top picture is better (It's got more "pop" to it), I would've tried to get more detail from the wheels. Just my 2 cents.

*Edited: Nevermind. My work monitor is crap. However, that picture you have looks quite a bit more natural than the other HDR pics you made.

DocHolladay's pics had some good framing, but you would need photoshop to help properly expose the picture. I realize we're not all pro photographers (I'm not either).. I'm just adding constructive criticism.

You're certainly right that no picture is perfect.
