JoeFromPA
Is anyone using this shift knob: http://www.5-starperformance.com/servlet/the-1001/STi-Shifter-Knob/Detail I've held it at the King of Parts and I'm considering the expense, as it's quite small in size, really nice leather, and really weighty. Just wondering if anyone here has it and can provide some feedback. Joe P.s. If you know the height difference from the stock knob to the Momo, imagine the same difference in height, cut in half. That's how much shorter this knob is from the Momo.
urs1ne
http://www.5-starperformance.com/catalog/47411.jpg I think it looks pretty sweet! I just may have to invest. ^ n00bs below this line
JoeFromPA
It's about twice the cost of the Momo....but after handling it, I'm really considering it. It's very similar to the stock knob in my Civic SI (same as the 04-08 TSX 6-speed or S2000 knob).. And I love the combination there of aluminum and leather, and I think the weight of this knob might damp some shifter vibration/resistance to changing gears/etc. Just wondering if anyone has taken the plunge. urs1ne
Haha, I didnt think that much into it! I just think it wont get as hot as my kartboy all metal one and it has the gate pattern on top. ^ n00bs below this line
JoeFromPA
I'm all about function...and yeah, the leather rim will help in the heat/cold Kartboy makes a Delrin knob that won't get hold/cold and only costs like $40 Joe
jxjjang
i have it.. i just put it on late last week. it looks white in the picture but it's actually more of an aluminum color. i'll take pics and post it tomorrow, it's a lot bigger than the picture tho. DiscoWagon
For that price, I have 2 knobs: Prodrive and STI Duracon and still have change to spare.
JoeFromPA
It's not cheap man, no doubt. I've found there are certain things I'm willing to spend on....and that includes things that I touch frequently and affect my happiness with the driving experience. I figure if I'm going to spend $60-80, but be significantly happier if I shell out another $50, I would consider it... course that's me talking like money grows on trees. Reality bites me in the ass. If the weight makes shifts more satisfying, if the feel is right, and if the height is shorter than the Momo knob (which it was), then I think this might be worth the extra coin. For me. But I'm trying to get opinions. Joe

JoeFromPA
Hmmm...wonder how much that STI knob weighs....the Lathewerks are really nice. I want the deep threading and heavy weight (holy crap they have a 1.2 pound knob)....but it's weird how they go from 1.2 pounds (550 grams) to 170 grams in their "best of both worlds" co-polymer/stainless steel version. I'd think a 300 grammer would be well suited Joe
JoeFromPA
actually, holy crap those are more expensive than I realized. If that STI knob I put on the OP is comparable in weight (I don't even know what the stock knob weighs) I think I'll be happy. I just want something heavier for that more solid feel. Siper2
I vote for the copolymer knob from WC Lathe, with a brass insert. Trés popular.

This knob WILL fit your OEM boot/lip. I'm using a Redline boot and I didn't re-install the lip properly so there is a small gap in between the boot and the knob, but it's barely noticeable. JoeFromPA
Awesome pictures. Thanks! Are you happy with the feel/difference from your previous knob (I'm guessing you had the STI Duracon Black knob)? I think it looks great in the pictures. Joe P.s. Siper - I'm not in love with the "ball o' polymer" shift knob look, and neither is my wife....and it's her car. Hence - Leather & Aluminum is a popular mix in this household
Siper2
Understandable! The STi 5MT knob is nice, but I guess I still prefer the Subaru Momo knob, for leather/aluminum. I got my wife the A/T version for her OB, as a car warming present when I picked it up for her. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v396/Siper2/Subaru%20Outback%20LL%20Bean/Dec-7.jpg
jxjjang
I don't know if it was the Duracon knob but it's this one: http://www.legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=97504 I definitely like the look a lot better, but I wish it was a little smaller. I'm a big fan of the JDM Honda style knobs like on the new Civic SI's. But this is the best knob I've had on my Subie so far.
Backlash
It looks real nice. But it just seems a bit stubby to me. I think i'd have to drive, or at least sit in a car with this installed before i'd buy one. possible to take a picture of the profile? it looks a lot shorter than the stock shifter. jxjjang
Well my short shifter is on the lowest height setting-to-throw without cutting the metal trim, so it's sitting pretty darn low. I prefer a shorter/lower position than a heightened one.
JoeFromPA
I think I might buy this one (ack, I'm not comitting!) and then raise the height of my shifter to gain more leverage. And maybe shorten the throw a hair. Use this to gain weight and leverage to maintain a smooth shift while reducing the throw. Seems like one of the best ways to maximize an adjustable short shifter while not getting the potential negative side effects. CDN 2.5i
I'm seriously considering one of the wc lathwerks knobs too... just having a hard time justifying the cost for the hybrid steel/copolymer versions that I find so attractive and expect will have a nice weight balance too
korpsepatrol
To those wondering the weight on this. Its slightly heavier than the stock knob. CDN 2.5i
Just ordered my WC Lathewerks knob... a white hybrid with 5MT shift pattern engraving I expect he will be setting up a group buy price for them over at NASIOC soon... http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1484459 Can't wait to get it - however I expect it will take a couple weeks or so (didn't request or pay for priority shipping etc).
