Soda Popinski
So looking at another's 5MT LGT, I was thinking; since the LGT 5EAT shifter has the same gate outline as the MT, and since you know where the gears are by feel alread. And it's just me driving it. And the gears show up on the dash already... etc. Why not throw some nice leather to cover up that plastic shift gate? It could butt right up to the knob... no need to look at that crack get filled with grime and dust all the time. I was figuring on getting the shift boot from the dealer for a 5mt and a shaft collar to keep it snug against the shift knob on my AT. Then popping out the gate and securing the leather just like you would on a 5MT. I say it would look nicer than a gaudy jagged crack that gathers dust and all kinds of kibbles in it. Before I embark on this, what do you guys think? Yay? Nay?
AKLGT
zerosports makes a shift boot for the 5EAT... please ignore the fugly STI sticker.... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v384/trdvibe/2005%20Subaru%20Legacy%20GT/100_0862.jpg Wiggle wiggle wiggle wiggle wiggle yeah!!! Soda Popinski
good to see it's not verboten. I was gonna just go get the boot from the dealership, and a shaft collar from a machine shop down here. Any idea how the bottom of the boot attaches to the console? AKLGT
it's a real PITA. you have to wrap it around the shroud and shove it in. I used a towel and rubber mallet and gently "whacked" it into place. LOL Wiggle wiggle wiggle wiggle wiggle yeah!!!
Dergara
You need some nice STI pedals to match. “Abandon hope, all ye who enter here” -Dante Alighieri http://youtu.be/lLFunBPgPOo

G.T.Subie
AK is that painted black around the shifter Denial is your best friend
Soda Popinski
yeah I was thinking about just going to the dealer, since the boot surround is the same on the 5MT as the 5EAT. Get rid of the plastic gate, and collar the boot on the shift shaft, and attach it just like the MT. I just hate cleaning that stupid shift gate. jim1969
looks much nicer than the stiching on the ZeroSports or redline ones.
Soda Popinski
the Liberal boot is under $50, but Japanparts quoted $35 to ship japanparts.com has the A/T liberal shift boot listed to me for 47 but shipping is 48 bucks, and takes 28 days? WTF. UPS international doesn't cost 48 bucks for a light piece of leather... and takes 10 days. http://japanparts.com/images/ImageFromDB.php?base=1&no=14411 Parts Manufacturer: LIBERALItem No.: 004-025-001 Price: 5,200 yen(JPY) / (47.32 USD) Delivery time by air: 21-28 days http://japanparts.com/images/ImageFromDB.php?base=1&no=14411

Soda Popinski
now my next step is: how do you get that chrome ring and shift gate off the console?
Gmoe
^ The chrome ring just pops straight up and out. Use a flathead screwdriver with a rag over it and go gently around. It'll just pop right up. I would think you could just leave the shiftgate and install the boot right over it..??
Soda Popinski
So the leather boot just fits around the shift gate under the chrome? what holds the boot down on a MT?
Soda Popinski
OK I just called a dealership. They don't carry them in the department but can have it within 2 days. They would not relinquish a part number or price for it. The 2007, 2008 and 2009 version are identical.
korpsepatrol
Soda you have a few options state side as well. http://fastwrx.com/zespshboa.html or you can go with the redline kit from the vendor classifieds and get the ebrake and shift boot to match. I have seen a few members(mitch comes to mind could be wrong not sure who else) who have done a 5mt boot and fitted it on the 5eat. Cheaper too. I decided to go a different route.. http://www.legacygt.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1831622&postcount=1 2008 6mt Legacy Gt Spec B DGM - Not so Stock/Work in progress 2006 5mt Legacy Gt OBP - Sold 2005 5eat Legacy Gt OBP - RIP R.I.P Coxx
Soda Popinski
Yea, I just don't like the red stitching. I want to find out how much the boot costs from the dealership... And for 98 bucks, I might as well get the JDM one which is $95 shipped overseas.
