keithk831
Obviously the newer the better, but is there much of a quality difference between the two years? We may get an 05 due to the lower price, but did they have any problems in 05 (being the first year of the new model) that were fixed in 06? The Murdocta
I love my 05!!! Ditto, 05 was ranked Best year on a poll here not to long ago.... Will it Blend? That is the question!
ShrinerMonkey
06 has better side impact protection and I believe ditched the problematic oil filter screen for the tubo... go for the 06.
Umass94
06 has better seats, IMHO. Chris Here's proof: Just 1 minute after buying my OBXT, I had 7 phone calls from insanely hot women, and got 7 dates out of it. Coincidence? I think not.
raloi
I believe '06 was when they put an end to the "catted" UP ..... ???
Ryandigi
I believe '06 was when they put an end to the "catted" UP ..... ??? nope, that was the 07s and up
srgdrum
You could get an unlimited or limited in '05. '06 is Limited only. You can save a couple bucks on the 05 if you aren't into the leather or sunroof. Still like my '06!
chenc544
The only thing that would hold me back is the fact that vast majority of blown turbo on this forum are '05's. I don't know the reason and haven't heard anybody offering up a good explanation either, but something to think about.
SubLGTaru
I have an 07 and love it. The only thing that I like better about the 05's is that they have the black headlight housings. The 07's have chrome. Black headlight housing > chrome headlight housing on OBP.
VXCL
05s have been modded since 04 so i would think more problems would logically happen over time. idk. also we do have the oil banjo bolt issue with the filter that can clog and starve the turbo. i dont think 06 and up have that, but it can fixed easily. Two-Five Sti-L
Differences I can think of between the 05' and 06' are the blk headlights(05)/chrome(06+), and more importantly, ALL of the 05's were recalled for the fan relay switch, while some of the 06's had this issue resolved before leaving the factory. Guest
Oil pickup tube crack on 06 much sooner.... so far no failures reported for 05s.
Legend
ALL of the 05's were recalled for the fan relay switch, while some of the 06's had this issue resolved before leaving the factory. Not true - not all '05's were affected. Mine wasn't. I went to 2 different dealers to discuss because I formerly also believed most all '05's were affected. Nope. alain_desforges
Love my '05. No problems so far, but it's a low milleage car. 22K.
SubLGTaru
Dang! I have 24,XXX on my 07. Got it with 10,XXX at the end of Nov. last year. I have already put 14,000 on it in 6 months! Yes, I drive a LOT!
rabydanimal
Really they're the same car more or less. Go for the best deal.
SubLGTaru
So, averaging 2333.33 miles per month is probably not a good thing.
keithk831
So they pretty much got it right the first time? Cool.
chenc544
05s have been modded since 04 so i would think more problems would logically happen over time. That's what I thought originally but as time goes by more '06 turbos should start to fail too. We are going on MY09 and I think I only remember reading about maybe one '06 with blown turbos on the forum so far.
scoobydoobie
Only complaint with my 05' non-limited sedan is that the rear seats don't fold down. WTF? My old 95' Legacy L had folding rear seats. Pretty sure they remedied this in 06'.
keithk831
Do the Limiteds have fold-down seats?
rabydanimal
Nope, '05s and '06s just have a stupid pass through in the middle. I have no idea why Subaru didn't make that standard back then.
chenc544
IMHO MY07 is probably the best MY with fold down seats, catless UP, some still comes with aluminum bits and SI-drive. '08 has more steel parts, including the hood, and taller final gear ratio. '05 5MT unlimited is the lightest so if the utmost performance is what you are after that's the car.
