Current: 18x7.5, Full Royal Steel Grey

Future: 17x7.5, Full Royal Gun Metallic

Bling-wise, I think the FRGM will tie my GRP/Black/Chrome scheme together. It also makes the polished face pop a bit more.

Should be about a pound lighter, although the meatier 225/45-17 tire will probably offset that.

I did this:

stock 17's

18x8 with 225/40 18

sti gold with 225/45 17 re070's, then 615's

sti silver with 615's iirc

18x8 with 245/35 18

17x8.5 with 245/40 17

for the street, I liked the sti wheels with 225/45 17 the best. between a top tire and top tire, the deflection difference isn't going to be much and the taller sidewall will actually perform better overall in real world conditions imo.

Chrome rockers... good eye!

That's what I mean about the FRGM versus the FRSG Rotas. The darker background color will make the polished face pop out and the chrome rocker panel.

It is very apparent (to me at least) in this pic, although this was obviously before tint/eyelids/drop....

I plan to get a set of these:

This is the only pic I've seen of them. Anyone know where they can be had and for how much? These are Sti wheels, right?

  • 2 years later...

Coming up on the time to get new summer rubber... my Toyo T1Rs (225/40-18) have only ~4/32" left on them and I'm feeling like taking the opportunity to downsize to 17" wheels.

I am currently riding on 225/45-17 (94V) Dunlop Wintersport 3Ds mounted on 17x8 e45 Enkei PF01 wheels. I typically use this setup from mid-October to mid-April. I love these tires for their capability in snow, however they really stand out from other winter tires when the roads are clear... they just grip like no other and they feel sharp and precise even when the temps climb to 70F. (For those of you not from New England, it is not uncommon to have a week of 70 degree days followed by a snowstorm even into April.)

I love everything about this setup except that the tires look a bit stretched. Therefore, I am seriously considering 235/45 or 245/40 for my summer rubber to square things up and get a bit more tire on the road. The wheels will be 17x8 e48 OZ Ultraleggeras. The tires will most likely be Hankook Ventus V12 evo K110s, as they are a very well rated/reviewed Max Performance Summer tire and are supposedly more "civilized" than the Dunlop Direzza Star Specs. The treadwear should be on par with my Toyo T1Rs as they both have a UTQG of 280.

Here is how the two sizes stack up against each other:

.................235/45.....245/40

Sec. Width...9.3"........9.8"

Weight........24lbs.......24lbs

Sidewall.......106mm....98mm

%>stock......~3%.......~.5%

Load Rating...97.........95

Price (ea).....$99........$110

I think both will look great and will meet my needs... I'm having a really tough time choosing.

For my suspension, I run Konis/EE springs in the winter and RCE Tarmacs in the summer. I will probably raise my Tarmacs slightly so that they are at the same height as my winter setup... I'm just digging the comfort that comes with proper suspension travel!

My alignment is pretty flat already... Camber: -1.5*F, -1*R; Toe: 0* all around. I think that should be flat enough to use the 245s, but I can adjust if needed.
