Voo
Have a '06 LGT and being the cheap ass that I am, I was looking into getting a STI UP to replace mine. Does anyone have a suggestion as to what MY I should look at? And will I need to make any mods to the STI UP before installation? Thanks!
The_Condor
Any Sti up pipe will work. If you can, find one with the heat with heat shields in good condition.
Voo
Thanks Condor. So I will need to make sure that the UP comes with the heat shield? I know my car has the COBB shield already installed. Does that count?
Voo
I've got an offer for a 02-05 WRX STI Catless U/P (Just the U/P, nothing else). I plan on buying it if I can find out if it fits. Also, what kinda grommets would I need to buy as replacements, and is there anything else I would need to get before the install? As I mentioned, I already have a COBB D/P and heatshield installed. Thanks!
Alaskan_Legacy
Just a new Subaru gasket would be good. It's $20 or $30, I don't remember which one was which.
JonLGT
Get new gaskets and watch out for the half moon plugs between the head and the valve cover.
05Limited
The heatshield on the uppipe is a different heatshield than the one on your turbo - it stays permanently (hopefully) welded to the uppipe.
Vsick
I just bought one as well.....Is it true that if installing aftermarket downpipe you can just remove the heatshield?
05Limited
You never "have" to run the heatshield... it's just a compromise, the more shielding, the less heat in your engine compartment... it's not gonna tear anything up, just a marginal (maybe moderate) performance caused by heatsoak. Waxiboy
Don't forget the resistor mod if you do not have AP.
Voo
Thanks for all the feedback! Got the STi U/P and both gaskets from Subaru for $80. I have AP, but I figure I'll shove the resistor in JIC. Now need to get my COBB Bushings, Apex HID kit and I'll be set for Install-day!!! PS: Someone in my area is selling Gimmick bushings, are they any different from the COBB ones?
