CzarDestructo Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 Sorry if this has been answered already but i'm posting this from my cell outside in the bitter cold! I need detailed instructions on how to remove the damn grill. I have the two pop its out and released the four clips along the top but the bottom refuses to budge and i'm afraid to break it. Can someone explain in detail the steps for removal?
Underdog Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 Nick, you should have removed the two pop-its and two screws near the pop-its (at least on the '06, not sure about '08). Also, the 4 tabs on top need to be unclipped. Once this is done, you need to pull the grille towards the front of the car by grabbing at the inside bottom of the grille. Do not bend or twist the grille but pull forward firmly. There are tight-fitting friction clips the hold the bumper skin up against grille and if you bend the grille forward, they will break. I'll try to make a quick paint pic to illustrate. The Crimson Dynamo
qikslvr Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 There are two clips that are about 1" wide on the bottom of the grill. They lock on to the bumper from the back side of the grill. put your fingers through the grill on either side of the emblem and feel around for them. I think they are about in the middle of each side of the grill. Once you find them, just lift up on them and the grill should basically pop/fall out. Let's kick this pig!
Underdog Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 Hopefully you can get this. The Crimson Dynamo
BDII Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 2 popits, 2 bolts and pull from the bottom. Need forum help? Private Message legGTLT
CzarDestructo Posted February 27, 2008 Author Posted February 27, 2008 Found the clips. Pressing them doesn't seem to be doing the trick and i can hardly even get my hands back there to do so. Should i be pressing them down or up? Also Rick from your pic yanking doesn't seem to be working either. The whole bumper is coming with it! How difficult should this really be? I thought it would take 5 minutes.
qikslvr Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 Pull them UP and the grill should fall out. Let's kick this pig!
Underdog Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 You shouldnt have to unclip the bottom ones, they merely hold on by friction and a slight detent. If it is taking the bumper skin with it then maybe you should pull up slightly as you pull forward. Maybe there is some water frozen in there making it worse? The Crimson Dynamo
firepyro515 Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 WOAH Wait, don't pull anything yet...... you will damage the grill and the bumper. Thanks to MS Paint, the blue lines are the four clips on the top, while the 6 red x's are screws that hold the grill onto the bumper. you have to unscrew the screws so that you can remove the grill, but when you put the grill back on, you don't have to put all the screws in, maybe one on each side, or even just 2, i think i put 1 on mine when i put it back on http://photos-b.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v155/222/81/39706490/n39706490_31439249_7725.jpg
Underdog Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 Odd, my '06 doesn't have screws at the bottom. Just clips... Did you have any luck Nick? The Crimson Dynamo

Took a lot of extra work, bloody knuckles, and working in tight ideas I'd rather not have to deal with again. Anyway, here is what I did today: http://members.cox.net/spedonabike/Legacy/IMG_2136s.jpg' alt='IMG_2136s.jpg'> Here you can't even see them http://members.cox.net/spedonabike/Legacy/IMG_2137s.jpg Hardly peaking out, just enough to allow the sound to emanate unimpeded Video for sound: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EULa7m4Kr5Q]YouTube - Legacy with Stebel Nautilus airhorns[/ame] The horn is a Stebel Nautilus Thanks for all the very prompt input from you guys while I was on my back on the cold ground! It was certainly appreciated! I'm probably going to remove the grill another day (when it's warmer!) to do a better job of cleaning up all the wiring and horn placement. Thanks again!
BigInALegacy Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 Whaddaya mean?!?! It's not nice enough outside for you today?
firepyro515 Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 Odd, my '06 doesn't have screws at the bottom. Just clips... Did you have any luck Nick? from what i can tell, by talking to others and what they posted, the 08's are the first ones to be a PITA to remove
Underdog Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 In the attached pic you can see the tab that didn't break off when I removed this particular grille. Like I said in an earlier post, these tabs just grab the bumper skin and don't actually lock in place (the screws and popits do that) but just hold the skin up tight against the grille. Anyways, glad to hear you got it worked out. We'll have to take a look at it when the weather gets better. The Crimson Dynamo
Sephon Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 I know it's too late, but a small nubby screwdriver, a mirror, a friend with small hands, and some patience, you can get those screws out without removing the bumper. I didn't put any of the screws back in, actually today I'm doing putting mesh in my grill. I'll post pics when it's done drying. -Sephon

Sephon Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 Ask, and you shall receive. RIPjeep2002 Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 So how many screws are their and exactly where are they?
firepyro515 Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 There are 6 screws, 2 on the left, 2 on the right and 2 on the bottom, if you look closely at the picture in post 17, he shows a close up of where the holes are exactly

I ran the mirror behind the grille and found the screws, and once I did, I put some double sided tape and stuck the mirror to the radiator so I could see what I was doing. Stick a stubby screw driver in there and you're set. It's really pretty easy once you find the screws and can see what you're doing. If you don't vote Trump, out, you're a bigot who hates america.
RIPjeep2002 Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 How did you get at the screws? from under the bumper?
nemo Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 ^ well not under the bumper, but through the "mouth" of the bumper, if you know what I mean. If you don't vote Trump, out, you're a bigot who hates america.
RIPjeep2002 Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 yeah, the space between the bumper, and the lower bumper
nemo Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 Yep. just gotta maneuver your arm back there, it's easy enough once you find the screws. A flexible screwdriver would be even better. If you don't vote Trump, out, you're a bigot who hates america.
