Cardozzo
I'll be replacing my Corrado w/in the next year & I think it will either come down to the soon to be released Audi A3 Sportback or the Legacy GT (haven't decided b/w the sedan or wagon, wish the sedan had fold down seats). Has anyone here considered the A3? godwhomismike
Try http://www.audiworld.com As for which to get, keep in mind that the A3 with DSG and AWD isn't going won't be out in the States until 2006. This year it will only come with FWD. If you can hold out to 2006, the A3 with AWD and DSG transmisssion should be a sweet ride. Until then, The Legacy is a better bet if you want the AWD. Edit: I would probably recommend the Volvo V50 over the A3 until the A3 comes with AWD and the DSG. - Mike
SBT
I initially thought about it because the styling appealed to me. Then I found out that Audi was using the Jetta/TT transverse mounted engine with 90 degree jackshaft rear drive system via a haldex diff and that ended my interest. No transverse mounted system for me. Too much torque steer, odd-balance to the engine/transaxle and raised CG attributable to that setup and that 90 degree jackshaft don't do it for me. SBT - sticking with the simplistic beauty AND balance of Subaru AWD - Pro amore Dei et patriam et populum -
Edvig
The Volvo V50 and the A3 are both smaller than the Legacy. IIRC, they are both about the same size as the Impreza wagon.

Edvig
as a single guy living in the city i actually prefer the size of the A3 Why not consider the WRX/9-2x/WRX STi? I know they are different cars than the Volvo, Audi and even the Legacy. None-the-less, they are great cars.
Cardozzo
I've defintiely given the wrx/9-2 some thought, but I really do love the look of the sportback, it's the first car since the corrado that I've really fallen for. Although as a previous poster pointed out, quattro won't be available until '06 (probably released late '05).
godwhomismike
as a single guy living in the city i actually prefer the size of the A3 If you got the funds, check out the Audi TT 3.2 Coupe -> What an awesome car!!!! I took it out on a test drive, I had dreams about it for a few nights afterwards. The exhaust sound is one of the best I've ever heard. The Bose system sounds great, the DSG tranny is awesome - even in auto mode it'll downshift through the gears with the sweet sound of that car. Oh man.. thinking back to driving that car I'm drooling. But if you think it's going to be the fastest thing on 4 wheels - just know it's not - and there are several cars for $10K less that are much faster. If your looking for a stylish, quick, awesome sounding coupe with a beautiful looking interior too - then check out the TT 3.2. The rear seats also fold down to give you 24.2 cu. ft. of cargo space. I don't make anywhere near enough to afford the TT 3.2, but if I did - a silver TT with an ocean blue leather interior would be sitting in my driveway now. (rant ON) Damn IT field, damn economy, damn job market, and damn lies they fed to us in college making us believe we were going to easily secure jobs and make a lot - Lies lies lies... I'm happy that I am one of the very few of my graduating class to be bless with a job especially in the field I studied. (rant OFF) ...ok I feel better now - Mike
Cardozzo
true, and from there it's a slippery slope to the upcoming boxster coupe. But I like the practicality and relative value of either the A3 or Suby.
gtguy
If performance is the priority, go with the Legacy. If not, the A3 is a very nice car. In terms of creature comforts, etc, the WRXes and STis just aren't playing in that league. Kevin
Deer Killer
Make sure to factor in the hidden costs. Say we're going to own the car for 10 years (I'll probably go 15), the audi would probably cost twice as much as the legacy, conservatively. Forget about changing that DSG clutch, you'll probably have a heart attack on the spot Yeah I probably post pretty much the same thing anytime anyone asks about an audi, but that's how it is. godwhomismike
Yeah that's true, but I would've leased the TT. Only problem was they wanted somehwere like $550 - $600 a month for a lease :O But man.... Precise
i like the simpleness, elegance and agressiveness of audis. The a8 is the best luxury sedan in its price range. The new a6 is very nice upgrade to the old model. The current a4 is very popular because of its variety of consumers and price range. Audi is heading in a very nice direction and the introduction of the a3 sportback will fill the void for cheaper lux 5-door automobiles (mini cooper is one of the players). I think its most appealing to me because of the sporty look with the availability of cargo room (something important to a college student like me). Check out this oettinger a3 http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1679590 so nice....

gtguy
That oettinger A3 is very nice, as is the A3 in general. We keep hearing $25K, though I imagine that won't be for very much A3. One with the good motor, Quattro, etc, will almost certainly be around the price of the LGT Ltd. The oettinger body kit is tasteful, too. Frankly, a perfect LGT wagon is one with that Corazon body kit. That is the most OE-looking kit I have ever seen, even if it does make a Subaru look like an Audi. gurpman
Looks like a very nice car. I'm thinking cargo room will be next to nothing. Some of the main complaints of A4 owners have been cramped back seats and lack of cargo room, which I think are smaller than the legacy's. If the A3 is smaller still, it's going to be tiny. Precise
Frankly, a perfect LGT wagon is one with that Corazon body kit. I agree, I think the corazon kit is very professional looking. The gialla kit is also growing on me but it seems more of a boy racer solution. The JDM front bumper is a compromise between both I suppose. Wonder how much that whole corazon kit would cost, I'm guessing $3,000.
