virulosity
Dealer wants $140. That sounded a little high to me. Is there a cheap source for OEM quality drive belts?

virulosity
I went to rock auto and they have 3 different manufacturers each with 3 different product types (# of ribs, etc.). Is any one better than the other? I have heard stay away from Dayco, but what about gates and acdelco? What dimension do I need?
Bdubs
They should know that at the counter. Just tell them make model engine size and the computer will have the part number for that manufacturer on file. I've always used Gates for belts and hoses in all the cars I've owned. They seem to hold up quite well.

porcupine73
You can get both belts for about $20 from Subaru dealers who sell parts online. If you are at all a wrencher it takes maybe fifteen minutes to put these on. The dealer price sounds about right though; figure double the list price for the parts = about $48 for the belts, plus the minimum 1 hr labor ~$90. Here's the part #'s 809218370 & 809214500 OEM BELT SET A/C & ALT FOR 2005-2008 LEGACY 2.5 & 2.55 TURBO ALL 809218270 & 809214500 OEM BELT SET A/C & ALT FOR 2005-2007 LEGACY 2.

CT05Legacy
You can get both belts for about $20 from Subaru dealers who sell parts online. It doesn't specify which is actually the one to get. Also, looked at the belts on my car and the belts are: Alt: 809218340 A/C Belt: 809214470 So lots of disagreement. Does anyone know the definitive part numbers for these? Do they change by model year? I'm in a 2005 LGT Wagon 5EAT by the way.
CB-M3
I used Goodyear Gatorbacks. Used them on previous cars also. You can do the job in 30 minutes if you have a 12mm socket. I think subarus are the easiest to do drive and A/C belts. Right in front of you.
