outahere
........I had the front bumper replaced 2 years ago so it has no Stongard and it has no paint chips. I don't think the plastic bumper material chips nearly as easily as the hard body panels, so no protection needed there in my opinion.
Interesting. Does the plastic bumper panel have the color molded in, or painted on?
agctr
The front bars etc on the front of new cars are a lot softer than days of old, hence more re-sprays because of increased stonechips. Adam.
Rimfaxe

Is X-pel the only clear bra currently available for the 05 Legacy GT Ltd Sedan? Did anyone put one on their Leg GT yet? There was some talk about Rockblocker/StonGard having a pattern cut soon, but I haven't heard anything. I think they were having trouble finding a car to pattern. Anyone in Redmond Washington willing to loan them your Legacy GT for the afternoon? Too bad they're not on the east coast, I would jump at the chance. Does anyone else have any suggestions- I'll need to pull the trigger on this soon.
Why are you reluctant to go with X-Pel? It seems to be the only kit available right now. Was surprised to see that the average lifespan of the 3M film is only 7 years, according to X-pel.
I heard that Rockblocker & Stongard had fewer pieces in the patterns (fewer seams, it seems!). The price is also typically lower than X-pel. OTOH, you can't sell what you ain't got. Rockblocker has been struggleing to get a pattern cut since early June, but they have not deliverd. I'm sure there's a good demand out there- most people really want to keep their new cars in top shape. Having the pattern come out so long after a model is released is like closing the barn door after the cows have left! Because of this, I’ll be going with the X-pel product, but I really liked the Rockblocker stuff and wanted to give them every chance...

There seem to be dozens and dozens of kit suppliers out there. It's difficult to choose among them.

In any case, my hood and fenders are covered with small chips but not the front bumper.
Legacy05GT
I'm not an aussie, but I just ordered the clear bra from Invinca-Shield, Inc. http://www.invinca-shield.com/asp/genkit.asp?kit=4234 I ordered all the deluxe pieces and all the optional pieces except the rear bumper pieces. The total was $363. I'm having it applied by Tint Co in New Britain, CT they're a professional applicator(whatever that means). The guy there said it'd be about 4 hours of labor. But for something like this, i'd rather pay extra to have it done right then try to learn as i go.

But the ones from Stongard, which consist of fewer pieces for a more seamless installation, would probably benefit from an experienced installer. Guest *Jedimaster*
I didn't see anything for the headlights and foglights. I think X-Pel would be the company that makes that.

Guest *Jedimaster*
I kind of miss having the option of the bolt on foglight covers like I had on my WRX, but X-pel will have to do.

bikerboi911
Anyone having any stone chip issues on the front bumper??? I've had mine a week and have 200 miles on it (no Highway travel) and already have a few nice nicks out of the front bumper. Just getting a bit leary about what the future might hold for my poor car. I guess worst case I have it scuffed and repainted for a few hundred bucks by my bodyshop. I just hate crapy paintwork and a color shift between body pieces. It's the metallic black so I do worry about getting a perfect match. If it looks like it's a repaint I just won't pay and I'll tell them that up front. The bodyshop I use is one of the best in the tri-state area so I'm sure it will be fine. Any of you guys have this problem or a fix?? The hood is fine so far it's just the bumper cover. I'm going to take a look for evidence to see if the bumper was repainted by the dealer. May have been damaged on the lot and reshot by their bodyshop. Just seems odd to chip so early. I looked for any evidence of paintwork upon delivery as I have known dealers to repaint bumpers, doors, etc. from lot damage. Are they required to tell you if it has had paintwork since you bought a new car??? I doubt I'll find any evidence and am pretty sure it hasn't been painted but I'm worried what this may look like in a few thousand miles or I just may be paranoid............ HansGT
I guy at my work got the clear set up on his legacy. Here are my comments. I like the fact that it protects, but you can clearly see where it ends. To me it looks kinda cheesy to see it half way up the hood then stop. Also, is anyone concerned about your paint over time. What I'm talking about is waxing. Is waxing over the clear material going to stop UV rays from damaging the paint? I had clear protective pieces on my 944 in front of the rear tires cause the rear end flares out so far. they protected but looked like crap once you got dings. If your talking 200-500 for this set up why not just get your front end painted? And lastly, will the clear material yellow over time?
axis008
The new films will not yellow over time. -ben
mjpulliam
I've got the entire front end, including 18" of hood covered with ClearShield. Also side mirrors and splash areas behind all wheels. Product came with a 5 year manufacturer's warranty against discoloration and peeling. Sure you can see the edges when you look for them but it looks better than standard bras or bug guards, and much better than chipped paint. dustdr
In our gritty-ass desert, and grittier highways and roads; cracked winshields, stone chips, and opaque headlights are a fact of life! RoadBlocker installed clear bra with head/fog light protection before I started getting dinged! 6000 miles later and not a chip to be found. Crud you do see on the bumper is mega-bug hits at high speeds. Best thing for easy bug cleaning from windshied and bumper is RejeX... ===========
axis008
I've always wanted my own tank... :p Love the pictures. I assume it's pretty easy to just wipe off all the bugs from the bumper? -ben
dustdr
Not only do we get the bugs in AZ, they really get cooked onto things during our blazing summers. By itself, the clear bra does not make it easier to remove bugs. Be sure to use what ever finsish protectant you use on the rest of your car on your clear bra. Right now, I am really sold on RejeX. Developed for protecting aircraft finishes, it is taking its place in the automotive finish protection industry. Not only fantastic on wheels, clearbra and body, it out performs all window treatments I have tried over the years. Bugs easily wipe off windshield with water and gas station sponge/squeegee. No longer have to scrubb with abrasive sponge. Here's more stuff on bra and RejeX.... Cool Pellet Gun Testing: http://www.automotivearticles.com/Clear_Bra_3M.shtml Car and Driver Blurb: http://www.corrosionx.com/articles/CarandDriver.pdf RejeX Photo of Porche, note subie in relflection: http://gallery.rennlist.com/albums/album53/CRW_2403_RJ.sized.jpg After an hour or so of pounding along some desert dirt roads, I parked the OB, gave it a 1 minute wipe down with a micro-fiber towel and took this photo. RejeX is cool....
