05gtlimited300
I just went past 30k miles and i want to flush and change both the tranny and rear diff. In NH it gets really cold so i want what everyone recomends. Ive read alot about redlines 75w90NS. Whats everyone using?
Impulse
NS for the gearbox, regular 75w90 for the rear diff is what i have. hardest part was piping the oil into the rear diff , haste does make waste. and i had to jack up a wrench using the car's weight as part of the lever to get the bolt to loosen, it was on tight
bugblatterbeast
it is finally cold enough up here for me to comment on the shift quality of Subaru Extra-S. It rocks. I've driven the tranny in the cold with the stock fill, castrol hypoy C, Redline 75w90NS, Amsoil SVG, M1 (got dumped real fast) and now Subaru Extra-S. The Extra-S offering is by far the best shifting hot or cold.
05gtlimited300
would any dealership offer the Extra-S or does it have to be ordered?
bugblatterbeast
I ended up ordering a drum. The local dealers didn't even know of its existence

05gtlimited300
so the only to way to get the Extra-S is really in the 5 gallon barrell. Thats such a pain.....
BlackHole
Uncle Scotty's Cocktail in the trans (see NASIOC), Redline Light shockproof in the diff. No shifting issues @ 20F. Kyle "BlackHole"
Noel
I just changed mine at 30K miles with Valvoline 75/90 Dino and it is difficult shifting when cold. IN fact, I sometimes can't get it into 2nd gear when very cold, without double clutching. I will try the Subaru Fluid next. I also had this issue with my old A4 and the only fluid that worked well in the cold was the Audi fluid.
bluesuby
I use Redline NS in the transmission and Mobil 1 75-90 in the differential, mostly because the squeeze bottle makes refilling a lot easier.
05gtlimited300
i think im going with the "uncle scotty's cocktail" for the tranny and redline in the rear
Googs79
I thought there was a walk through somewhere on changing the differential fluid on a MT Legacy GT, but can't seem to find it. Can anyone point me to where I might find this? THanks
