c-lo
^^sat in the passenger seat today in PGT's car. DAMN those seats are comfortable. 258k miles - Stock engine/minor suspension upgrades/original shocks/rear struts replaced at 222k/4 passenger side wheel bearings/3 clutches/1 radiator/3 turbos
BigT
...so all i need to do is pull out the passenger side "weight-detection-thingy" like what PGT did...and both driver and passenger side air bags out and customize it into my Corbeau CR1! That's it!!! Sweet...simple...who wants to help? CRAZY KEN Not in an 05 dude. The "weight-detection-thingy" is part of the frame. If you pull it out your gonna have some serious problems with your carputer. Plus your other airbags might not function properly. Sounds pretty unsafe. CRAZY KEN
...that is not what I wanted to hear...so there is no way in hellz I can upgrade our '05 seat...oh well, this thread is toast! CRAZY KEN
PGT
you don't know until you try. start looking for a passenger's side seat to tear apart from an '05 Legacy/OB (ebay and junkyards). I doubt the LGT uses a unique system...it will be shared across all models. I know for the MINI, the OC3 mat was added in mid-05 model year production. I think all '05 Leg/OB's got them, but would be good to check so you don't get an early model without the gear you need.
BigT
If anybody is serious about swapping seats, I believe this is still the only thread where it was done: http://www.legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=54778&highlight=Spec+Seats Again... The ODS are different from year to year, and VERY complicated. Unless you have some serious wiring knowledge and skills I wouldn't suggest messing with them. Hmmm... i not disagreeing with you, but I can't find it either. I believe the only people who did this are people who completely gutted the car (ie took out all of the airbags/interior) and made a race car. I've neer heard of anyone replacing the seats for a DD and keeping the airbag system in tact. Can anyone find this? I'd like to know how they did it. Guest
^ Yeah, I tried to find it and can't. I am positive I saw it. Even remember pics. I believe the guy ordered a bracket from a company in California - can't recall if it was custom or from Impreza. He had issue with the position sensor, but he left it alone hanging which is equivalent to seat pushed back (so airbag deploys with full force). mr_luv
I swapped seats with a 06 into my 05 the sensor is defintaly differnt any ideas of how to get around that issue or should I just wait and spring for a 05 passanger seat when I can. hutru01
How is it that a simple weight sensor is so complicated? Thats exactly what I was thinking. I am not a engineer or anything, but there has got to be a way to configure it to where it will just stay on regardless of whether there is a passenger sitting there or not. Unless you would like to do some cutting/fabbing of cushions onto the other frame, I would suggest just buying the passenger seat perhaps through a junk yard. Thats exactly what I was thinking. I am not a engineer or anything, but there has got to be a way to configure it to where it will just stay on regardless of whether there is a passenger sitting there or not. There probably is a way, but there are about 20-25 wires in the connector. If we could get someone with some real wiring experience to take a look at this it would be helpful, but to just do a guess and check method there are some ridiculous number of combinations that are possible. Why is it so complicated? Because Subaru made it!
mr_luv
yes the 05 had 6 or so wires off the harness the 06 has 4 I beleive. Also the 05 uses a different sensor the 06 is denso. Mr.
lakoko
ok here we go just got the seat installed by speed element http://www.speedelement.com/ http://www.recaro.com/index.php?id=3860®ion=3&L=2 bracket made by wedge engineering http://wedgeengineering.net/SEATBRACKETS/tabid/5426/Default.aspx since side airbag is removed the airbag light will be on all the time. I am wondering will this affect the front airbag? I have also attached a picture of stock's seat see if anyone can tell us which wire is for which. http://i15.tinypic.com/6ydqefo.jpg http://i3.tinypic.com/87j920z.jpg
enkeiandmore
so u got your seats done by speed element. so did u order the seats from them and u brought the bracket or did they have everything all ready for you?
PGT
yellow = airbag. when the seat is out of the car, put a digital multimeter in impedance mode and measure the resistance across the two leads in the plug. Find a resistor that's close, or gang up multiples to achieve what you need. note: 1/2w or larger.....1/4w resistors will burn up.

BigT
Does Anyone know if you can order Spec B. Seat covers from suabru parts? More than likely, it will just be some $$$. Search google for subaru genuine parts, then you can go through their drill downs, or contact your local dealer. North Shore Subaru in Glen Cove, or Metric in Huntington will probably give you the best rates on the island.
CRAZY KEN
...I am bringing this back from the past. Has anyone measured/know the exact resistance of our driver's side airbag? Thanks, CRAZY KEN Liking the Corbeau A4 Wide in Black Suede a lot!!! With lumbar support of course...
SlightlyEvil
I'm surprised nobody has found a seat that goes into the 08 STI that will work with our car. Surely the airbag system would be easily adaptable and I think the seat brackets are the same no?
