Mark34
If you are doing a cubby hole install, you could easily run the antenna cable through the dash, behind the glove box, and along the floor underneath the plastic trim at the doors and underneath the rear seat to the trunk. The trim just pops off, the seat bench pulls out easily, and the glove box is easy to remove. If you want to go behind the rearview mirror, the only hard part I could see is fishing the wires through the tight spots between the headliner and then again maybe behind the dash to the cubby. You could fish it over (which is open once you remove the map lights you'll see that), then down behind the A-pillar trim and into the dash. I only did that so I had no externally exposed antennas on the car. I have the GPS antenna in there and haven't had any issues with that, but other people on here have satellite radio in there. Honestly, I had more of a pain in the ass trying to run an antenna through the windshield seals (front or rear) than doing that.
dbrunone
so wait, this thing says "2007-2009 LEGACY (without Navigation)". Does that mean it won't work with my 07 Spec.B??? Am I stuck with XM if i want satellite?
spect2k
^^I just installed the sirius tuner in my 08 spec B.

Jeromes
I have seen the Spec B statment used alot. Can someone explain what this means.  I ask because my wife has an 06 outback wagon that I just installed an 07 radio (# on face of radio is P-204UN) that I modified to bring out the Aux input feature. If I read this thread correctly I can add Sirius radio to this setup using the OEM sat radio kit? Jeromes
Looking at the install instructions, it looks like the sat radio box plugs into the 20 pin CD changer connector on the back of the 07 Legacy head unit. Can someone confirm that? Milescj70
I have an 05 legacy and was thinking of buying that 120watt seat sub....how is the performance....light bass, mild, or good thumping? And also I was thinking of upgrading my 05 single cd for that OEM AM-FM-CD-MP3-XM/Sirius player radio with climate control it was removed from a 2007 Subaru Legacy sedan. The radio has P/N 204UN located upper left of radio on face plate and has P/N 86201AG69A. what else do I need to my 05 to make the SAT work aside from the Antenna.... Thanks, Miles

More information would help us give you more answers. Is your current head unit the dual zone electronic climate control? If so, you can put a 2007 head unit into your car, but you'll need to read this thread. There's lots of information there.
Milescj70
Got it....I don't have a dual zone......I am not tech savy so the "Witness" has to be lead a bit... Thanks, Chris

I'd totally skip past the '07 head unit and get something like the Crutchfield kit or locate one that does a dual din setup (I know someone does, can't remember who makes it though). RustyShackleford
I have noticed no difference between mounting the antenna on the inside of the windshield versus mounting it on the roof. Â When you (or anyone else) mounted it inside the windshield, did you mount it where there is a black-dot pattern (to reduce glare) just behind the rear-view mirror, or did it seem to work better if you mounted it where the windshield is clear ? Looks like at least one person said they mounted it behind the black dots, but I find it dropping signal on my temporary test installation; could be the trees though - I need to go drive around some ! spect2k
Maybe these 3 pictures can help. I had my satellite radio installed at the dealer, although they actually called in an outside audio specialist to do the install. I never have reception problems. RustyShackleford
Maybe these 3 pictures can help. I had my satellite radio installed at the dealer, although they actually called in an outside audio specialist to do the install. I never have reception problems. Ok, thanks. Drove a lot last night and had GF try antenna in various locations (behind rear-view mirror in clear area and behind black-dot pattern, on underside of sunroof front tilt panel, etc) but the place it seemed by FAR happiest was just on the front passenger-side corner of the dashboard (right at bottom of A-pillar and next to glass). So that's where it's going I guess. The hard part is routing the wire from the cubby and through the glovebox area to the A-pillar area, so I guess I'll just leave plenty of extra wire and I can move it again if it I want. Mark34
Here's a pic with it by the rearview.... I think it is less noticeable here. Either position isn't really viewable from the outside due to that tinted section at the top.
RustyShackleford
Damn, this may all be MOOT. From Reuters (via yahoo-finance) on possible Sirius bankruptcy: http://tinyurl.com/aljohp Of course, I guess it's a long way from "seeking bankruptcy protection" to the place where our radios stop working and no one buys out the operation. cino135
please excuse if off topic.........but my 07 2.5i w manual climate came with XM already installed. i recently purchased a pioneer avicf-90BT. i see that pioneer has a unit that complies with my new head unit. by ANY chance, would my factory XM system comply with the new pioneer. or as im ASSUMING, im gonna have to spring for the specific pioneer unit for XM? and one more, if Sirius is THAT MUCH better than XM, should i let my XM subscrip. run out in March and then go with Sirius? OF WHICH has a cheaper pioneer compliant SAT hookup? hope this wasn't too much garbage. any opinions or facts will be greatly appreciated! cheers
Mark34
I thought since the merger that most of the stations on XM and Sirius also merged (they just have different channel #s), and now XM subscribers get Stern as well. That being said, I believe that the Subaru satellite kit does not have the right cable connections in the back to hook into any aftermarket stereo. It probably could be done hacking cables and soldering, but I personally wouldn't chance it. Besides, aftermarket kits are like $70 now. We took a look at a Clarion unit on this thread http://www.legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=72363, and the connections cables are different even though the box looks almost identical. goboom
The deal with the Sirius XM merger is that programming combined to an extent. Some channels adopted the XM name and the rest the Sirius name for similar format. Effectivly, I can listen to the same stations on either radio type. However, the channel number is different once you get out of the decades. For example, The Pulse is Sirius channel 12 and XM channel 26. Look at the programming guide to see which channel is where. The extent of being able to listen to the same stations ends with the "premium" and sports stations. XM subscribers have to pay extra to listen to Howard Stern and Sirius subscibers have to pay extra to listen to Oprah. A lot of subscribers don't give a flip about either person. The Howard Stern deal is part of the debt problem that could lead to bankrupcy. As far as the head unit and compatibility, the connections are proprietary. There are threads where owners simply replaced their headunit and did not use the prewiring to get what they want. I went portable tuner route because it was cheaper and easier to work with. Hope this helps.
RustyShackleford
Hope this helps. It does, thanks. But I'm still wondering if I'm wasting my time trying to do a nice clean install of my Sirius receiver (a Stratus, not the ridiculously overpriced Subaru one). goboom
It is never a waste of time to do a nice clean install. Some prefer the suction cup, others spend more time thinking about mounting. Several folks did a cubby install and it looks really nice. Do a search and you'll see.
RustyShackleford
Some prefer the suction cup, others spend more time thinking about mounting. Several folks did a cubby install ... Funny you should bring this up. I'm thinking to use a suction cup which installs on the floor of the cubby (or on ryobi1's mount) and sticks out a few inches: http://tinyurl.com/aqhpm8 The reason I want to do it this way, instead of a mount that's flush into the cubby opening, is so I can still use the cubby to hold some little knickknacks: specs/shades, film cannister of quarters, tiny flashlite ([ame=http://www.amazon.com/Princeton-Blast-2AAA-Xenon-Flashlight/dp/B000BKTCQC]Amazon.com: Princeton Tec Blast 2AAA Xenon Flashlight: Sports & Outdoors[/ame]).
