CasopoliS Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 I backed into my garage, which may have been a bad idea. The sound slightly reverberates off the back wall and the exhaust sounds a little more 'raspy' than it is. Maybe later I can get a clip outside or a drive by. I don't know my thoughts on the sound yet. I need someone to drive it down the road while I stand on the sidewalk. I think the headers increase the pitch.... less rumble and more Indy car. I am not sure if the sound is worth the performance. Anyway, here is the video on YouTube. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_ripIoDmAU]YouTube - 05 Legacy GT full exhaust[/ame]
CasopoliS Posted February 24, 2007 Author Posted February 24, 2007 I found this clip... which is the autospeed exhaust. I LOVE this sound, but this is probably with stock headers. meier motor sports Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 the headers really do mkae it more honda ish. less burbaly and smoother but higher pitched. still sounds good though
CasopoliS Posted February 24, 2007 Author Posted February 24, 2007 FYI they are non-EL headers guys. I would guess EL headers are even worse.
pattypat Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 The first clip sounds nasty. The autospeed exhaust sounds alot like the perrin real deep, sounds good. Would any setup with headers sound like the MR setup. If so I would never buy headers.
CasopoliS Posted February 24, 2007 Author Posted February 24, 2007 I am looking for header vids now...
CasopoliS Posted February 24, 2007 Author Posted February 24, 2007 http://www.legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=50589 headers with perrin CBE and downpipe. but its only at idle. my car sounds mean at idle as well. I think the MR CBE is higher pitched to begin with... CasopoliS Posted February 24, 2007 Author Posted February 24, 2007 Ok I think its the headers guys. In the thread below, there is Clip 1 and Clip 2. Clip 1 I am pretty sure is on stock headers, while clip 2 has headers. They are different cars, same cat-back - but sound totally different. http://www.legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9865 Are your headers equal length? FYI they are non-EL headers guys. I would guess EL headers are even worse.
CasopoliS Posted February 24, 2007 Author Posted February 24, 2007 ok I just took a clip of the car idling and the clip sounds NOTHING like what the car sounds like. Before I was not near the camera when recording (I was in the car). This time, I was with the camera and listening intently. When played back on the computer, its not even close. So take that for what its worth.
PhilT Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 GT Spec Headers and full catless exhaust, WOT in 3rd. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GglE6Yt3mW4]YouTube - Legacy GT at Cayuga[/ame] Double Award Winning Legacy GT Wagon
BLACKonBLACK Limited Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 I'll have some GT Spec GEN2 headers, Invidia Catted DP, Perrin CBE clips soon enough.
redfly17 Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 I have the Vibrant Headers & UP, Invidia Catted DP, Perrin Y, and AVO Type 2 Axle-backs and this combo is the sweetest sounding exhaust. Sounds sorta like the Autospeed clip but even better.
redfly17 Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 I'm not sure if its the headers Cas. They will increase flow and volume (decible wise) but hardly change the pitch that high. I blame it on your mufflers.

I blame it on your mufflers. headers change the sound a great deal based on their design, how the pulses 'meet', etc. People with this CBE are getting different sounds than I am getting.
redfly17 Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 The Autospeed clip sounds like my car before I slapped on my headers and Full DP. Before it was Stock headers, Crucial UP DP, Stock mid, Perrin Y and AVO type 2 axlebacks. Now its has a deeped fuller sound. I have heard exhausts similiar to yours Cas but they had custom magnaflow mufflers. What type of headers are they Equal length?

t0ad Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 Yours sounds pretty close to mine, Cas. I've got MR headers/Cobb catless DP/MR exhaust. Sound isnt as 'deep' as I thought it would be, but headers (which are thinner than stock manifolds, thus more sound.. right?) and a lack of cats contributes to that. http://www.softwarepirate.net/pics/car/exhaust-outsiderev.avi http://www.softwarepirate.net/pics/car/meondyno.avi

I will watch these vids when I get home, thanks for sharing.
jdmhatchvii Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 ok let me fill you guys in whats goin on here b4 this gets even more out of hand lol the equal length header sounds diff because you get rid of the boxer rumble which subby are known 4. this is why a el header sounds more raspy also stock manifold cast iron holds in more sound doesnt sound so pingy. a reg header also will change sound but will still have some kinda boxer sound but el deff a different sound all together i know i have automasters el header with built in uppipe it sounds ok when ur driiving but reg parking lot i dont really care for it exhaust is greddy evo 2 these might be 4 sale if interested.

THAT is why the rumble is there. equaling the length of the headers meets the pulses of gas in a different frequency-match... thus the different cadence that is more similar to an inline engine. glad you came in before it got outta' hand
