-= VIDEO =- Headers, DP, MR CBE

I backed into my garage, which may have been a bad idea. The sound slightly reverberates off the back wall and the exhaust sounds a little more 'raspy' than it is.

Maybe later I can get a clip outside or a drive by.

I don't know my thoughts on the sound yet. I need someone to drive it down the road while I stand on the sidewalk. I think the headers increase the pitch.... less rumble and more Indy car. I am not sure if the sound is worth the performance.

Anyway, here is the video on YouTube.

I found this clip... which is the autospeed exhaust. I LOVE this sound, but this is probably with stock headers.

Anyone know the mods here?

Ok I think its the headers guys.

In the thread below, there is Clip 1 and Clip 2. Clip 1 I am pretty sure is on stock headers, while clip 2 has headers. They are different cars, same cat-back - but sound totally different.

Are your headers equal length?

FYI they are non-EL headers guys. I would guess EL headers are even worse.

ok I just took a clip of the car idling and the clip sounds NOTHING like what the car sounds like.

Before I was not near the camera when recording (I was in the car).

This time, I was with the camera and listening intently. When played back on the computer, its not even close.

So take that for what its worth.

I'm not sure if its the headers Cas. They will increase flow and volume (decible wise) but hardly change the pitch that high. I blame it on your mufflers.

headers change the sound a great deal based on their design, how the pulses 'meet', etc.

People with this CBE are getting different sounds than I am getting.

The Autospeed clip sounds like my car before I slapped on my headers and Full DP. Before it was Stock headers, Crucial UP DP, Stock mid, Perrin Y and AVO type 2 axlebacks. Now its has a deeped fuller sound. I have heard exhausts similiar to yours Cas but they had custom magnaflow mufflers. What type of headers are they Equal length?

Yours sounds pretty close to mine, Cas. I've got MR headers/Cobb catless DP/MR exhaust. Sound isnt as 'deep' as I thought it would be, but headers (which are thinner than stock manifolds, thus more sound.. right?) and a lack of cats contributes to that.

it actually has a lot to do with airflow, and pulse timing. yes the thin walls really amplify it as well. I will watch these vids when I get home, thanks for sharing.

ok let me fill you guys in whats goin on here b4 this gets even more out of hand lol the equal length header sounds diff because you get rid of the boxer rumble which subby are known 4. this is why a el header sounds more raspy also stock manifold cast iron holds in more sound doesnt sound so pingy. a reg header also will change sound but will still have some kinda boxer sound but el deff a different sound all together i know i have automasters el header with built in uppipe it sounds ok when ur driiving but reg parking lot i dont really care for it exhaust is greddy evo 2 these might be 4 sale if interested.

maybe YOU need filled in

these are NOT equal length headers that we are talking about.

equal length header sounds diff because you get rid of the boxer rumble which subby are known 4
the rumble is because the boxer engine has alternate firing in the aft and fore cylinders, the firing between left and right is NOT evenly alternated. instead it fires twice on one side... then twice on the other. so the pulses leaving the left and right exhaust manifolds are half the frequency of an inline engine. THAT is why the rumble is there. equaling the length of the headers meets the pulses of gas in a different frequency-match... thus the different cadence that is more similar to an inline engine.

glad you came in before it got outta' hand
