yeah, popping in for a bit.

lemons was awesome but we had a ton of issues. lost a calliper bolt in practice friday, flattened a tire. popped the radiator while running sat, contact once that day. contact 3x on sunday and had to fix the front plywood aero we had thrown on. spent some time in the sin bin. so just not a straight forward race for us, overall I think 30something though?

still a badass time! I remember seeing you guys out there, awesome theme with the 555!

Sorry it took me so long to respond. That's some rough luck! Can't wait to see a race where you guys run the whole thing, which races are you going next year? We'll be at all three for the northeast in 2015.

We stole that number from another team accidentally so we'll be back to 85 next year

Do any of the dealerships in the Burlington MA area have the ability to laser cut a Legacy key if I supply the blank? The wife checked Reading Subaru during an oil change and they told her that they just order keys.

I had an 08+ key cut for my 05 wagon at Cityside Subaru in Belmont a year or two ago. I would have assumed that they all could do it. But I guess not. Truth is, if you need it, I think a locksmith should be able to copy any key. Especially if you have the right blank. What he can't do is program the immobilizer chip to the car. Or do you need it cut from VIN? Enjoy!

Edit: Okay ... I don't think I have a laser cut key. Is that new for 10+? My answer is less helpful. I still think that a locksmith with the right equipment ought to be able to cut it. Then just take the cut key to the dealer and have him program it.

^ Dayum! I hope you don't mind, but I got a good chuckle out of that story (mostly because the pictures are funny). If it's not one thing, it's another, right? So, how far did it all get thrown? I assume this was in the grass somewhere.

Just googled locksmith and laser cut key. That's the right answer. Don't think you can do it at like a hardware store and such, but an automotive specialist locksmith should be able to do it no prob.

No worries. With the important bits found and preventing some random person from having access to the vehicles, it's much more amusing now than it was initially. They didn't get thrown too far, I don't think. I guess it depends where exactly I lost them, which I'm not too sure about. If I had to guess, probably about 20 feet.

I'll check for locksmiths in the AM. That's definitely a good suggestion to look into as well.

Any 4th Gen owners need a Fumoto oil drain valve (F-105)? Bought one for my girlfriend's car before we discovered her brake lines were totally botched and she's ditching the car... New in bag, never been used or installed. Paid $23.95 for it shipped from Amazon, yours for $20 assuming local meet-up. Pics available upon request, but haven't snapped any yet...

Guessing the dealer didn't take kindly to the request for the recall then?

No, since it was clearly not OEM lines that were the current problem, there's no way they could justify it under the recall. They didn't want to touch the car at all, and STRONGLY suggested she just get away from it as fast as possible, so that's what we're doing... Now on the market for a cheap (non-death-trappy) used car, or a cheap lease... Not sure where we'll end up.

I'm going to guess that there were more rust issues other than JUST the brake lines... because if that's the only thing that was wrong then that dealer is a bit nuts to tell you to run away like that. In the word of rust, brake lines are very easy to repair or have repaired if you can't do the work yourself.

I'd take you up on the valve if you were closer but it would probably be cheaper/easier for me to just order a new one.

I think the issue was more about what else the idiot who owned it would have done to it, given that's how he replaced a brake line running front to rear.

Yeah, it was a $4k purchase (2005 Legacy 2.5i with 240k miles) and needed about $1-1.5k in repairs just to re-run the brake lines... (brake lines weren't rusted, but were replaced with copper piping totally exposed under the chassis, at huge risk of puncture etc). After that it's a crap shoot as to what else might have been repaired in the cheapest/easiest way possible. Only one small spot of rust on the rear quarter panel, but the unknown and lack of confidence makes her (and me) think that it's best to get away from it.

Ummm... so I should get rid of my Beretta because the fuel, evap, and brake lines are totally exposed under the chassis?? That is only a special thing that Subaru and some other modern cars did to help prevent corrosion an ran the lines into the cabin to get to the rear of the car... It's far from a HUGE safety concern, I'm not going to say where he ran them didn't put them in harms way... BUT just being under the chassis is not an issue.. And secondly he probably used Cunifer lines... Not quite just "copper" lines and also probably the best option to use due to it's resistance to corrosion. http://www.cunifer.com/

Going off the other info about the car, 240K miles and a 4k purchase I'm not saying you should have held onto it... I just look at what the repair shop said and smell and awful lot of BS.
