sandwood Posted October 22, 2004 Share Posted October 22, 2004 I owned a 2004 s4 avant before having to sell it and buy the legacy gt wagon (both manuals, sold the audi bc I took a lower paying job and didn't want to keep up the monthly payments). I think there are one or two other former '04 s4 owners here as well. obviously I didn't have the chance to race one against the other. nonetheless, my unscientific but somewhat informed opinion is that an '04 s4 would comfortably walk away from a manual tranny leg gt. it would do so gradually from a stop, and it would easily do so from cruising speed. with the 6mt, the s4 had superb highway pickup at any speed. if the two cars had to remain in top gear, the audi's advantage would be even bigger. the s4 handled remarkably well for such a heavy car - better track times were achieved around the nurburgring in the s4 than the rs6, which shouldn't be that much of a suprise. for the leg gt and s4, assuming two drivers of equal skill, I would think it would be very close between the two cars on a track. having said all that, I'm certainly hoping that with some ecu work and a full exhaust, and maybe some relatively cheap suspension and tire upgrades, the gt will be at least the equal to, if not faster than, the s4 under all circumstances. getting out of the legacy game Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
agctr Posted October 23, 2004 Share Posted October 23, 2004 Great posts 05LegacyGT330Ci and sandwood, I agree the S4 would walk away from the GT STOCK V STOCK and I personally wouldnt waste my time and the fuel going up against one unless I had an STi engine under my lid. Deer Killer Posted October 23, 2004 Share Posted October 23, 2004
//S has become "superprofit margin".
Yeah, well they have to pay for all those $8000 turbo replacements for all the B5's.. blowing turbos stock in 10k miles is not cool. rao Posted October 23, 2004 Share Posted October 23, 2004 Actually the engine in the S4 is "special" they had to relocate the timing chain to the rear of the engine. That should make replacement parts cheap :rolleyes: Rob IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR CAR YOU SHOULD NEVER DRIVE IT Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

gtguy Posted October 25, 2004 Share Posted October 25, 2004 Keep in mind that the new S4 isn't all about performance. It looks good, has torque for days, and a great interior. It's one of the few German luxo-performance cars that is something approaching fairly priced, IMHO. My only complaints are the chromed mirrors and that little airfoil thing on the lower part of the door. :lol: Kevin Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

agctr Posted October 26, 2004 Share Posted October 26, 2004 Kevin, I think those are the parts that make the S4 stand out from the others. Bit like our GT and STi, those have things that make them stand out from the pack. IMHO, its the BLING like that, that makes u know yr specialllllllllllll. Adam.
