TwinkE
I finally got a chance to install the rest of the lidatek system in the car. The first part was the push button install from this thread: http://www.legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=47661 Yesterday I cut out a rectangle in the grill below the emblem to slide the detector into: http://www.twinke.com/Pictures/pushbutton/DetectorFront.JPG It's not too noticeable if you're not looking for it. Side view: http://www.twinke.com/Pictures/pushbutton/DetectorSide.JPG In my old MR2 I had the speaker for it inside the console and couldn't hear it for crap so I'm trying out putting it on the steering column here behind the parking light switch: http://www.twinke.com/Pictures/pushbutton/SpeakerLocation.JPG Here it is ziptied temporarily. Hopefully it holds because it's a huge pain to get the top part off: http://www.twinke.com/Pictures/pushbutton/TempMount.JPG The LED for the system is going to go between the stability control and the wiper heater switches. In case anyone was interested, here's what the box that holds those two buttons looks like inside. It's hard to open if you don't first pull off the button heads for the outside buttons. http://www.twinke.com/Pictures/pushbutton/BoxInsides.JPG I just dremeled off the tab for the middle button so the led lead could pass through unimpeded: http://www.twinke.com/Pictures/pushbutton/BoxHacked.JPG I put some caulk to seal the led to the button: http://www.twinke.com/Pictures/pushbutton/LedMounted.JPG After I figured out to take the button head's off, the box went back together easily: http://www.twinke.com/Pictures/pushbutton/BoxTogether.JPG I put the box back into the assembly and put the dash back together after mounting the rest of the sysem into a good place. The led looks pretty nice. http://www.twinke.com/Pictures/pushbutton/BoxMounted.JPG Everything is now back together and working like a charm. TwinkE
nice clean install. Curious to hear how effective this wiil be. So did you end up putting the speaker by the parking light on the column? Any pics of that? The fourth picture is of the speaker ziptied to the posts that hold the top plastic piece to the column. http://www.twinke.com/Pictures/pushbutton/TempMount.JPG It's really loose right now and will probably flop around on the top. I'm going to test it out and see how loud the buzzer is and maybe move it somewhere if I can't hear it. There's plenty of room behind the parking light switch to mount something. Here's a shot of the column with the covers off: http://www.twinke.com/Pictures/pushbutton/SpeakerLocation.JPG
TwinkE
What made you choose the Lidatek? I have been doing a little research and cant figure out what system to buy I got in on a groupbuy for the lidatek when they first released the LE-30, it was like $50-$100 off. The previous version had pretty good reviews so I got it. I have only had one encounter with cops shooting laser when I had it installed, it detected the laser just fine. I knew there were cops around the corner so I was going the speed limit, I just wanted to test out the sensitivity.
TwinkE
It jams the laser for 5 seconds or until you turn it off while you slow down.
NSFW
Here it is ziptied temporarily. In the picture that follows those words, I'm seeing what looks like a manual shift lever, and an SI-Drive knob. What's up with that? Are you using the SI knob for a volume control or something? NSFW
D'oh. My bad. I thought SI-drive was strictly an AT thing. Google has just informed me otherwise.
TwinkE
That was just a bad picture showing the speaker loosely ziptied to the posts that hold the steering column cover together. On another note, with the volume at 8 or so I can still hear the speaker from under the cover so I'll probably leave it there.
