Metal2You
Well I got my Fumoto valve in the mail the other day, but the darn thing won't open. Anyone else have this problem?
John M
You've got to break it in before installing. Once you open & close it a couple of times it gets easy to move.
TRS
It's stiff when brand new, and you can't apply much torque on it just holding it in your hand. Use a wrench/channel lock/vice grip to hold the valve body and work the lever back and forth a few times to loosen it up a bit before installing it if you're worried. mickeyd2005
Install it and then open and close it a few times. When it was brand new, I couldn't operate the lever by just holding it.

zmarko
Where'd you get it from? I searched but couldn't come up with a link (except for the alternative to the fumoto).
Metal2You
Where'd you get it from? I searched but couldn't come up with a link (except for the alternative to the fumoto). I got it from Lubrication Specialist LLC. http://www.lubricationspecialist.com/index.php?cPath=12&html=fumoto.htm&osCsid=1ebdf1cbab47455fc6f52d9593b4821e The F-105 fits all Subaru models. Max Rebo
Which is the correct one? It lists F-105, but when I search for Subaru-specific valves, I get these: All "F" Series Valves Without Nipple $20.95 All "F' Series Valves With Nipple $21.95 All "FG" Series Valves Without Nipple $24.95All "FG" Series Valves With Nipple $25.952ft 3/8" ID Hose For "N" Series Valve (In Accessories) $2.00Optional Stainless Steel Safety Clip (In Accessories) $1.00 Do we want the F or FG series? Is the SS safety clip necessary (or recommended)?
Guest
Get nippleless. The nipple will protrude and is really not necessary - regular one give one nice stream. Don't know about any safety clip. Didn't get one. Fumoto FTW.
Guest
You can also get it directly from Fumoto. There is a coupon floating around for 10% on the board (search). I bought two fumotos and after shipping it was cheaper to get direct than from lube...specialist. Although their name is certainly cool.

I went with the nipple and got hosing from them too so I can drain directly into a container without the need for an oil pan. The clip is not necessary and I think I read that you might want one if you do rock crawling (I certainly don't in my LGT ), but I got one anyway just to make sure. Seeing how difficult the valve is to open I might not use the clip at all.
BLACKonBLACK Limited
i filed a V in the bottom of mine, since the oilpan is thin, if you screw the fumoto all the way in all the oil wont drain, a small amount will remain in the pan (yea im anal) see the size of the threads and the size of the oil pan hole (pics thanks to scooby mods) http://img379.imageshack.us/img379/7015/oilpan2yd7.jpg http://img299.imageshack.us/img299/8123/oilpan4fk1.jpg I made a V http://img292.imageshack.us/img292/1227/valvenotch2xc5.jpg
lucas569
nice mod BUT there will always be a small amount left after oil changes...
SSN666
I have a hand vacuum pump that can hold all of the oil so I bought a Fumoto with a nipple and some plastic hose to connect the two. Pump up a litte vacuum, open the valve, and the oil goes into the pump. I take the pump to the recycling yard for disposal. Now if I can only figure out a way to take off the filter without oil draining all over my hand.
lhsa
i personally like the nipple:icon_wink i just hook up a hose and drain directly into the disposal container. nipples FTW!
TSiWRX
Now if I can only figure out a way to take off the filter without oil draining all over my hand. Some people like the "Dixie cup method" - others use something called "Filterglove." I, on the other hand, love getting burned! <-- I love Winky, my "periwinkle" (ABP) LGT! - Allen / Usual Suspect "DumboRAT" / One of the Three Stooges '16 Outback, '16 WRX, 7th Subaru Family
SSN666
Some people like the "Dixie cup method" - others use something called "Filterglove." I, on the other hand, love getting burned! I was looking for something that could punch thru the filter can with a drain line on the end of it, but no luck. Thought I would try a plastic bag like a Zip-Loc around the filter. Thought I would try a plastic bag like a Zip-Loc around the filter. Just use a 16 oz. Solo cup. Works great for beer and oil changes, but not at the same time. No way man, I always drink beer when I'm changing the oil, or any other car mod for that matter. It's way easier to deal with the inevitable minor (hopefully) murphy's law issue that always crops up when dealing with cars. Wait, you probably meant not to mix beer and oil in the same cup..... Good advice!

paycer
I got two NIPPPLED Fumotos in the mail yesterday and when each of the Subies get their next oil change, they are going Fumoto. I'm getting some hose at Home Depot today to get ready for the IV drip action at the next oil change. PS that was hose, not hos.
rmunk
I recently tried to install a fumoto on my 05 2.5 gt wagon, but when it was on tight the valve lever housing was about 1/8" away from some frame work so removed it. Thinking it would hit the frame when driving and engine flexing. Any thoughts?
TRS
Add a washer or two under the crush washer so that the lever is further away when the valve is tight.
