Billy Dagwood
YAY! Just installed my new COBB double-adjustable short throw shifter today, and wow, does it ever change the character of driving! It's smoother, easier to shift, more comfortable to use. Just better! The walkthrough on Scans's site was REALLY helpful. The only thing I had to do that it didn't mention was trim away at the rubber and foam sound insulation underneath the shifter housing because I set the shifter at its shortest, and it was bumping when I would go into 2nd, 4th, and reverse. Anyway, a little cutting, and now it's totally fine. fweasel
I like mine as well. How about a few return key hits in between pictures so I don't have to scoll to the right twenty feet... ignore him, he'll go away.

Billy Dagwood
oh, j255c, they list for $135 on the COBB site. I also picked up a set of the hardened bushings. They'll go on at my next oil change (easier to throw on while the car's up on the lift than to jack it up). http://cobbtuning.com/products/?id=2459
Jedi Pimp
Looks like you made the shifter short but you left the throw really long. I installed mine today as well but made the throw shorter.
Billy Dagwood
??? I made the throw as short as it will go. That's why I had to trim away at the foam and rubber. It's the height that isn't as short as it will go. Why do you think my throw is long?
Jedi Pimp
Because it bottom throw adjustment is the opposite of what it logically seems. The longer the bottom the shorter the throw - try it yourself. Thats why people have to trim the shifter plate metal with a dremel because the arm is in the way for 1st gear. The top adjustment places the shifter knob at the desired height. He's got that placed w/ some movement left in either direction. ignore him, he'll go away. Jedi Pimp
It takes 2 minutes and an allen wrench to prove what I am saying. Either try it or shut it.
Brady
Jedi Pimp is right ... you have it set for the longest throw possible, but damn near the shortest height possible. The bottom ball is the fulcrum of a lever. The arm connects to a point above the fulcrum, then your shift knob will move proportionally far to the ratio of the length from the fulcrum to the arm to the length of the fulcrum to the shift knob. The shorter your distance from fulcrum to arm, the further you have to move the shift knob to make the arm move as much. Or, as Jedi Pimp suggested, you could just try it. I was in agreement with you, just worded poorly. Now you shut it:icon_wink ignore him, he'll go away.
Billy Dagwood
Oh, I think I gotcha. I guess the funny part is that it's still shorter than the stocker. Or at least it seems like it. Thank you for countering my ignorance. I think I'll leave it as is for a few days and then revisit it. I was planning on tweaking anyways. Ok .. maybe I'll do it tomorrow. moviemadness
for those of you that have installed the Cobb STS, do you feel any vagueness in shifting into 2nd or 4th? I extended the bottom ball as far as it will go without hitting the metal in the front left corner, but I don't see how 2nd and 4th gear will be affected.. any input anyone? Billy Dagwood
i actually find 2nd and 4th more distinct than they used to be, and I positioned mine as long as possible at the bottom (to get the shortest throw I could) without hitting the metal around first (just like you). When I get the new bushings in, I'll let you know how it feels.
moviemadness
maybe it's all that boot leather getting in the way...? it's like an old lady's neck or something now. lol
Billy Dagwood
it really might be. I had to be careful when i was screwing the knob back in not to squeeze the boot under the little ring neck thing. I also ended up cutting away at the foam sound insulation stuff (and some of the rubber) around 2nd, 4th, and R at first because I had my bottom pin as short as it would go (which was actually making my throws longer), and I was pinching the insulation in 2nd, 4th, and R. moviemadness
maybe that's what it is.. I barely got finished by sundown today.. resealing the C ring during sunset is pretty hard.. haha I'll check it out tomorrow I guess.
moviemadness
oh and how do you get that metal thing out?? it seems like it's welded on to other parts on the top and bottom..? would it be bad if you just leave it out completely? I don't have a dremel and don't even know wtf a dremel is. to install the STS, I spent like 40 bucks on tools today.. haha

moviemadness
the metal thing that you're supposed to trim out the top left corner if you wanted to make your shifts super short
Billy Dagwood
oh THAT thing. I didn't want to dremel my car. My shifts are short enough this way! A dremel is a high-speed rotary tool .. .. um, it's like halfway between a saw and a drill. It's often used for removing material. Not the best description. Here, look at some: http://www.dremel.com/en-us/tools/tool-category.htm?H=188091
