Your best IPOD connection suggestion

danslgt

Recommended Posts

Will be getting an 05 LGT 5MT next week, very excited about driving this amazing car. But one thing I must have is a good connection with this car stereo for my Ipod 60gig. Don't really want to spend too much $ on this, an FM transmitter could work, but I hope some current Legacy owners have better suggestions on what product to get. Bluetooth availability is a plus..

Thanks!

Thanks for the tips guys.. For someone like me who's never done this before, this is not quite a walk in the park. Gotta get comfortable with the LGT.

Any other "simpler" ways? What a wimp... LOL.

believe me, if you take your time and read the included directions you can do it. i don't know where you are located but i'll bet if you ask the forum there is help close by. pretty good bunch of people here.

Alright, looks like that's the best recommendation from everyone. I'll just have to try not to screw up my subie completely which is always possible with me.

Go with the Pro kit and get everything installed while I take out the radio or is the basic kit with GLI sufficient? My LGT has the factory sub, does that mean I don't need GLI? Or should I get it and install it anyway just to be sure?

Thanks guys!!

Dan

Yeah...if you don't mind using the Jazzy version (silent CD), that is your cheapest/easiest way to get a line-in solution.

I am finalizing a solution that isn't easy to setup, but doesn't require a Silent-CD to play. As soon as I have installed in a second vehicle, I will post up a new Thread on my solution and the cost. If you are daring and can solder on your radio's board, then you can install this solution for $75.

If you would rather have me do it, the cost will be $250. You send me your radio, I install my board, test it and send it back to you within a couple of days.

This solution uses the CD/AM/FM button. There is a 4th position on this button that is unused by the radio on 05-06 radios and for SAT on the 07 radio.

Again, thanks for the tips from everyone. Awesome folks!

Should have my LGT on Friday the latest. Can't wait!

mvigneau - I think I'm gonna try the jazzy on my own since most say install is pretty easy and the cost is reasonable. Gotta save some $$ after paying for the car. Thanks.

Definitely understandable...but if you get fed up with the silent CD as I did (with my own board) then you can come talk to me later ;)

link?

no, i'm not going to search if he wants to sell one he can direct me to the site.

Searching won't help because there isn't a thread for this...yet (next week)

I haven't posted a topic on this yet as I am installing this into DV8ingVector's radio this Sunday to make sure that I have all my ducks lined up and verify that it works for someone else other than myself.

I also want to create a write-up for those brave enough to install this themselves.

+1 on the Jazzy Mod.

Easier to install than it looks. It's been working great and the silent CD thing is a minor thing. I just rewind the CD when I feel.

rewind? mine just does a 2 to 3 sec. "pause/no sound" then starts all over again. don't know what i did but it works. bosco

If the only CD in your player is the silent CD, it just repeats forever. That's what I do most of the time as I listen to XM thru the mod pretty much exclusively now.

Of all the stupid things to run out of, I'm out of labels for my label printer - not one store in town sells stuff for it anymore, so I had to order some off the 'net. Anyway, it might take me a couple days to ship your order because of that, but I'm still here & doin' my best to keep up. Thanks for the continued interest & support guys.

I am not knocking Jazzy's board. I think it is a great product for a lot of people, just wasn't enough for me - I am Anal Retentive to the nth degree.

So even if it is the only CD in your player and it repeats, when it reaches the end of the CD and repeats, it will go silent for that short period of time.

Plus I would like to use my CD changer for what it is designed for - listening to CDs.

I'm not knocking mvigneau's solution (when it exists) either, it just isn't the right solution for me.

Call me crazy, but I don't like soldering onto factory circuit boards, nor getting a loud thump over the speakers every time I change audio source.

I guess I just would like to use my stereo for what it is designed for - listening to whatever I want.

i have the Jazzy installed and it works fine for me. competition is good for us, the consumer, so keep thinking of cool stuff.

i want to have my i-pod on a charger and listen at the same time. how or what do i need to do this. i have searched all 70+ posts and it's all Greek to me.i do not want to use the headphone jack i need it to work with the "line in" on bottom ( i'm not sure what the terms are for each end) anyway i want to use a dock for sound and charge. a company called http://www.proclipusa.com has some neat set-ups for I-pods. thank you. bosco

This provides RCA & 3.5mm connections, which is good for use with a GLI or without (the power is then hardwired to this, allowing you to charge your ipod and it includes a fuse).

The Belkin Auto kit is also fairly popular. Then you just need a 3.5mm patch cable to run from that to the board.

I'm also considering adding this product to my website...PAC Audio's iPod to RCA and 3.5mm adapter (ic-RCA). You might notice it looks remarkably similar to the davidnavone adapter...

how does this connect to the Aux-in accessory in the radio? what i want and it's my fault i can't describe it properly, is to be able to mount my I-Pod on the dash with the Pro Clip holder and plug in one cable ( the bottom dock connector) to charge/play the I-Pod. i do not want to have a cable (3.5mm) plugged in the top of the I-Pod for audio like it is now and another (for a charger) plugged in the bottom to charge it. one cable should be able to do both i.e. dock connector. it did on my Harmon/Kardon I- Drive which i am not using now. is this is possible or do i need a different device to do both? if any of these would work could you please PM me or post a diagram that a noob can follow?

i have your Pro Kit it is installed with the RCA into/out of the GLI going straight to I-Pod with the 3.5mm plugged in the top.

thanks again. bosco

I think you misunderstood what this bundle of wires is... The iPod connector is the "one" cable you want that plugs into the iPod. At the other end of that "one" cable is connections for power & two connections for audio (3.5mm and RCA - they are the same audio signal). You would connect the RCA cables to the GLI, although you'd either have to use female to female couplers or hook up the GLI backwords because the input on the GLI is also male RCA, just like this cable.

Jazzy & Bosco, great discussion on this because I want the same solution. One cable for charging and audio to my Ipod. I understand Jazzy's description of how this davidnavone adaptor works. Jazzy, I'm not quite sure what you mean by hooking up the GLI backward if I don't want to use a female to femal couplers? Maybe it will be clearer when I do the install later. I still don't have the car until this weekend.

Another quick question Jazzy, for your pro kit, what do I use the 6' male or female Y-audio cable for? and where do I connect the 3.5mm end of the plug to? To your board?

Thanks!

Dan
