Jazzy & Bosco, great discussion on this because I want the same solution. One cable for charging and audio to my Ipod. I understand Jazzy's description of how this davidnavone adaptor works. Jazzy, I'm not quite sure what you mean by hooking up the GLI backward if I don't want to use a female to femal couplers? Maybe it will be clearer when I do the install later. I still don't have the car until this weekend.

Another quick question Jazzy, for your pro kit, what do I use the 6' male or female Y-audio cable for? and where do I connect the 3.5mm end of the plug to? To your board?

Thanks!

Dan

dan, check out the Pro Clip site, some slick stuff and well made. i have the center mount and the padded holder which i took the adjusting plate off, you don't need it and it gives it more room by the WW stalk. btw i added a Subaru sub woofer and it made a night /day difference in overall sound, get one you won't be disappointed. bosco

Definitely cool car mount stuffs there Bosco. I will get a good one for my ipod.

I do have the Subaru sub woofer. I'm buying this 05 GT from my buddy, he took good care of it and it's in great condition. I can't wait. Looks like your car is all souped up, must be a sweet ride.

Wow...I REALLY like those cables...an all-in-one custom solution! I may have to pick one up for myself. I am using the dock right now, but for my wife's car, it will be nice to have one cable that doesn't have any of the other stuff attached to it...just the necessary pieces.

The GLI has male rca cables on the input side and female RCA jacks on the output side. Since these cables have male rca plugs, and the input on the GLI has male rca plugs, to hook the cable to the input on the GLI, you'd need female/female couplers. Otherwise, you could just hook up the cable to the output on the GLI and run it backwards, which would probably work fine as I know several other people have done this accidentally and not noticed the difference.
Another quick question Jazzy, for your pro kit, what do I use the 6' male or female Y-audio cable for? and where do I connect the 3.5mm end of the plug to? To your board?
Well, like I was just saying - the GLI has female RCA outputs & male RCA inputs, so one cable (the 3.5mm to female RCA) goes from your iPod or whatever to the GLI and then the other cable (the 3.5mm to male RCA) goes from the GLI to the aux-in board, with the two 3.5mm ends plugging into the iPod or equivalent and the aux-in board respectively. Make sense?

I'll post up a diagram on the website for Pro kit installers today if I can. I really should have done it a long time ago.

Here's the basic Pro kit install diagram. I'll get it up on my site later tonight. I'm also pretty sure I'm going to add the other cable, and I'll create a diagram for that install as well.

Leave the GLI installed & use an RCA coupler to connect the n-ipod-rca-plus cable to it for the best sound.

I have been searching and searching online for the correct orientation of a Ground-Loop Isolator. Nothing online says anything about a proper or improper way of installing...although I did find an interesting piece of information on the Xiltel website.

Plug the cable end of the ground loop isolator marked stereo directly into your stereo RCA input. Plug the RCA cable running from your computer or audio component into the RCA connectors on the ground loop isolator marked input. [/Quote]

So if you read that, the cable end (male side) plugs into the stereo (Jazzymt/mvigneau board) and the plug end (female side) is where your component plugs into.

either way, i need a coupling. question does it matter that your XITEL diagram is for AC not DC system? bosco

Well, it is brand specific. Most GLI's are simply passive transformers with 1:1 windings, so it doesn't matter which orientation they're installed.

The PAC GLI that I (and Crutchfield) sell has uneven windings, 1.3:1. So, it matters which way you install it...in one direction, it will be slightly boosting the voltage level of the audio signal and in the other direction, it will actually be decreasing it slightly.

Unless whatever GLI you use has uneven windings though, it doesn't matter.

just finished installing the N-IPOD-RCA-Plus by http://www.davidnavone.com the one jazzy recommends. very easy to install just plug into the GLI (you don't need a coupler) find a switched/unswitched 12v wire connect it, ground it, done. this also charges the Ipod when there is 12v to ipod, will not overcharge b/c ipod has an internal sensor/switch that cuts power to it. now to sound, all i can say is this is the way to go. :icon_bigg volume level is the same as a cd or radio much, much, better than using the headset jack 3.5mm. $30.95 delivered to door, 1 hour time, charges ipod, cd sound, and higher volume. bosco

jazzy, figure out how to add this to a package, big improvement, worth every cent.

bosco, I bought the davidnavone N-Ipod-RCA-Plus adaptor too, waiting for it to arrive before I can install. Where do you find the switched/unswitched 12v source to connect the red 12v cable on N-Ipod-RCA-plus to? If you wanted to add another source of audio device like satellite radio on top of our Ipod, how would you do this? Since the Ipod docking cable on the davidnavone adaptor cannot be split using a regular 3.5mm jack splitter?

Any pictures of your setup to guide me? I'll prolly do the install this weekend.

i just used a VOM to find a switched wire, don't want ipod charging unless car is "on", there is a red wire going into the large white male connector into radio i used (this is by memory, check w/meter). you better talk to jazzy about "another source" the N-IPOD-RCA-Plus is split, you can use either the RCA's or the 3.5mm but only the "dock connection will charge" plus the sound is much better, you would need something to spilt the input to the cd/radio (the jazzy accessory mount) it sounds like to me. you would not be adding a source "on top of ipod" you would be adding it next to the ipod, like an A/B switch in your home. jazzy might have addressed this question before in a earlier post. if you follow jazzy's instructions and take your time no problems. sorry no pics. hope this helps, if not we'll try again. :icon_bigg bosco

I'm curious about this as well. If I don't have or know how to operate a VOM should I get help or is faily easy to figure out?

Thanks!

if you are not comfortable with or not sure how a VOM works then i would HIGHLY recommend finding someone who does. really this is not hard but your LGT is not the car to experiment on. i can't tell/show you on this site which wire, all i can do is get you close which i did in post 43. get help test it. bosco

btw a simple circuit tester will work also. looks like a screwdriver with a point on end and a light inside clear handle with a lead out of it. clip the lead to grd. probe connectors until tester lights. if it lights w/ignition "off" it's unswitched, if it lights only when you turn "on" ignition it's switched. get help. bosco

I do know how to use a screwdriver circuit tester. So this helps me a lot in finding the unswitched 12v source.

Thanks Bosco. I will most likely install it this weekend. Yaiks...

According to this post, the pins of interest on the radio harness are 10 (Yellow/Red) and 11 (Black). The yellow/red is 12V accessory (switched) power and black is obviously ground.

You could either use this, or the cigarette lighter wires right next to the radio (which are what I used for my XM Roady2), which are also switched. For just running an iPod, they are equally viable power sources.

PS. The iPod cables are on order, but it will be a week or so before they're in my hands.

i forget the lighter is switched, my other car is a GM product and they are not switched. good diagram thanks. also you will love the ipod cables, this is the best upgrade, the sound differnece between the 3.5 mm jack and the dock is night and day. volume on par with a cd. thanks again. bosco
