There is no such thing as a CA smog legal DP. It it against federal law to replace/remove any working catalytic converters. For older (pre OBD-II) cars you could replace a clogged/damaged cat with a high flow version and as long as the tailpipe emissions were good, it was ok in the eyes of the state. For OBD-II cars, there are only a couple aftermarket cats that are smog legal replacements, and none are performance type cats. Otherwise the only other option is OEM. Even if your car blows daisies out of the tailpipe, if you have anything other than all the stock cats in place you will fail a visual inspection. That is the letter of the law.

In reality, if you have what sort of looks like cats in the right places and the car blows clean, then you are usually good with most smog station operators. Many have been known to "overlook" equipement issues when spoken to by our friends Jackson, Grant or Franklin.

Also, you don't need to smog a new car in CA for 6 years, so mod away, but keep your stock parts and reinstall them when either 6 years passes or you sell the car.

That is true about the smog. I didn't know it was 6yrs I thought it was like 3 or 4yrs. Rallitek has a smog legal down pipe but, it's $889. So should I just get a cattless dp shorty and save alot of money or should I get a catted dp? Pros and con to catted and cattless. Thanks for all the help.

If you get a catted, you may have a chance of blowing clean...

Whereas w/ non catted, i doubt you would be able (though i wouldn't know...) to pass the test...This is why I opted for a hfc to try and pass...If I don't, I'll go w/ my stock parts...

Don't get the shorty. Get a full length DP. Then, if you can deal with some stink out of the back of your car, go catless, if you want to take care of some smell get the catted. I think the power difference is something along the lines of 5 hp. Just make sure you save those stock parts, when (and if you still have your car) you need to get smogged.

Rallitek has a smog legal down pipe but, it's $889.

They may have gotten it certified, but it's still not legal to use on your new car. Not sure why they bothered on a 05+ vehicle specific cat replacement piece.

CONDITIONS FOR REPLACEMENT

To any person repairing or installing any exhaust system, the Clean Air Act, as amended 1990, requires that:

AFTERMARKET CATALYTIC CONVERTERS MAY ONLY BE INSTALLED IN THE FOLLOWING SITUATIONS:

1. If the vehicle is missing a converter; *

2. If a State or local inspection program has determined that the existing converter has been lead-poisoned, damaged, or otherwise rendered ineffective and needs replacement. Retain a copy of this statement from any government inspection or enforcement agency for your records;

3. If the vehicle is over five (5) years old, or has more than 50,000 miles, or eight (8) years old or 80,000 miles for 1995 and newer model vehicles, AND a legitimate need for replacement has been established and documented.* This situation normally would include only plugged converters or those damaged to the point where unrepairable exhaust leaks are present. See * DOCUMENTATION REQUIREMENTS below.

Catalytic converters are emission control devices which are designed to last the life of the vehicle and do not normally require replacement. Furthermore, if the vehicle is properly used and maintained, original converters are covered by the emissions control warranty for 5 years/50,000 miles, or 8 years/80,000 miles for 1995 and newer models. Federal law prohibits any person from replacing these devices except under limited circumstances (ABOVE).

So I take it that you are not very satisfied with the shorty that you have. Sounds like you have not had a good experince with the parts you have picked up.

Nah, I am completely happy with the parts I have. (Minus UP). I have the "two-piece" crucial downpipe. Shorty + "Midpipe" = Full length. Completely happy with those parts.
