That should leave ample room this time around for Honda to bring us its highest performance Civic, the 2.0-liter, 220-hp four-cylinder Civic Type-R three-door. http://cwimg.us.publicus.com/apps/pbcsi.dll/bilde?Site=CW&Date=20060619&Category=FREE&ArtNo=306190002&Ref=V3&Profile=1024&maxw=490 These photos show the Type-R testing in Germany, and the lack of camouflage suggests that the car based on the Civic Type-R Concept shown at Geneva in March is headed to market late this year in Europe and Japan. We can only hope, with the eighth-generation Civic, that the U.S. market doesn’t get shut out again. Too much ricer? What do you guys think??? IwannaSportSedan
Too rice, and too ugly. Maybe it will appeal to people who's sense of taste hasn't developed yet, but I think it is ugly. I am not in that market in any way shape or form, so I gues to each their own.

SC GT
It all depends upon what it can do. I initially thought the CRX Si and the WRX were ugly, but I wound up buying one of each. I won't wind up buying a Civic, but great performance and value have a way of making me see certain cars in a different light.

PGT
the Type R looks very similar to the current Civic Diesel on sale in the UK (in fact...identical body...details are different): http://www.tiscali.co.uk/motoring/images/hondadiesel_345x185.jpg

PolarDog
current UK car /\ next gen: http://motor.terra.es/addon/img/motor/e6be55hcivicp.jpg Honda has some cool stuff with their CV transmission and their alternative fueling options and their "find-a-deer-in-the-street-using-radar" trinkets (among other things, I'm sure), but if the price of the RL is any indicator, my guess is that the Honda folks aren't going after Subaru. They're going after Lexus. True, the Civic styling is different, but I'll suggest round bubble it isn't polarizing enough. It's just "new", and, oh yeah, Honda has rediscovered red paint. Many people thought the Neon was hot when it first came out, but now it is reasonably invisible, even with the yellow-painted SRTs floating around (Aside: Did the yellow color indicate a lemon? Was that a warning?). Amazing to think that Subaru expanded a super-tight niche market using a "rather odd bug eyed front end" and a color derived from Royal blue to grab all the attention (or was it something else? AWD?) Hahaha, anyway, Honda is definitely chasing here. The time to worry would be when Toyota brings out something that better competes with Suby and considering that Toyota owns 20% of Suby, that doesn't seem likely in the near term. I should be hearing from the Civic and Neon folks about now....
