Tommyh
Don't dis the brick. I think they are great cars. Over engineered, quirky, and great touring cars. I kinda wish Volvo had stayed it's own company instead of a branch of Ford as the quality and safety of the cars has suffered. On the other hand they have gotten a lot more sexy and sporty. BTW wagons are always cool...because you just don't get it until you've got one. Martin Luther - "Who loves not women, wine and song remains a fool his whole life long." ilh
My other car is a turbo brick (98 V70 GLT). It is a great car for what it is. Our previous 245 had an interesting, over-engineered brake system, probably the same as this 745. The front calipers each had two pistons and two separate brake circuits, shared with the diagonal rear wheel. In the event of a brake line leak, you still had a functional brake circuit at each front wheel. I don't remember what the setup was like at the master cylinder (i.e., if there were essentially two master cylinders, but it wouldn't surprise me). STIJibz
lol thanks for the comments guys...yeah this car has a pretty complicated braking system as well...but i suppose volvo did anything to make the car safer at the time, which is why this car is still the only car my family owns w/ 4 wheel disc brakes & ABS. moms corolla has 2 drums FTL. lol keep the comments coming
unobtainium
ilh, there was a brake circuit design a whole lot like that on my '76 Lancia Beta. That car had pretty good brakes, and a strange e-brake that worked through the rear calipers. 99% of those would freeze up and quit working, but mine didn't. It was a nice car as long as nothing was broken, and I drove it a long way, but it was really difficult to work on.

GBY
Thats a real Volvo for sure, I was unfortunate enough to buy a 2000 V40 new, what a POS. Friend of mine had an early 90's 740, bought it with 110k on it and sold it with 195k, totally reliable. Try that with a late model Volvo, good luck.
