RabidMonk
No problem. I probably should have given up on that one from the get go - but I just couldn't resist with the way the rest of the thread was going.

djmonkey841
Ok, that I knew. But here's a question: when you guys wash your cars, are you just really careful? Or do you employ some other solution, such as covering the IC with something (haven't washed my car myself yet .. it's still pretty new, and it's only now getting to be warm enough in Boston to bring the hose out). The easiest way I've found to avoid getting soap on the IC is to just not wash your car ever... But the one time I did wash my car...I put saran wrap over the scoop, as well as over the cracks of the hood just to be extra carefull....
dr. pepper
so what i have taken from this thread is that going through a car wash is pretty much off limits, because soap and water will get on to the TMIC, and is water ok to get onto it, or is that a no-no also? djmonkey841
What's the date today? What does the date have to do with the IC? If you purchased your LGT after a certain date does that mean it's ok for soap?
hondas123
Any model built after April 1st of 05 has a redesign on the TMIC. They used soap proof fins and that don't cause melting. Ask melayout...he was the cause for the redesign bringing it to SOA's attention. - The Mortgage Man
djmonkey841
Damn....if only I had waited to buy mine...I wouldn't be scared to wash it and I'd wouldn't have to drive around in a dirty OBP LGT that looks like its SBP
Lagacy GT
I drove my car in the rain behind a semi truck transporting soap. I think it was leaking as the pull down door was foaming. My car sputtered to a halt after all the soap that got into the intercooler. Called AAA and said no luck, just had it hauled to the nearest Sub dealer to get a new IC :( set me back a few. Mines
so I have a question. How would you know that your intercooler has melted? Do you tell by how many bent fins there are on you intercooler?@ if so, i have a few
Lagacy GT
bent fins, smell, drastically decreased performance after a recent carwash (such as getting beaten on the 1/4 by a viper, corvette, porsche 911, etc.).

RuskiTrombone
If you get soap on the intercooler just use the soap scum remover found in any grocery stores. It works like a charm.

LotusSeven
Haven't you guys learned to protect your intercoolers yet? Everybody knows that the only way to prevent the dreaded "soap-melt syndrom" is to completely coat the intercooler with heavy, black undercoating. It's important to be sure that the space between every fin and tube is completely filled. Spraying "Great Stuff" insulating foam into the hood scoop is a good temporary fix if you can't find spray undercoat.
