Bone stock '06 WRX TR 1/4 mile times

Recommended Posts

I just got back from Virginia Motorsports Park with my 2006 WRX TR. The strip is located at ~100ft above sea level and according to the National Weather Service conditions were as follows:

Relative Humidity 65%

Temperature 50F

Dew Point 28F

Pressure 29.96 in. Hg

My car has just over 5,000 miles on the clock, and I'm running a 'true' factory stock set-up (nothing from the intake, exhaust, engine management, etc has been changed). I used Shell 93 octane gas (had a 1/4 tank), tires were at 40psi all around and I did no weight reduction other than remove my spare tire.

While I've been drag racing for 4+ years now, this was my first time with a WRX. I made a total of 8 passes and my three fastest are displayed below along with the run where I got my fastest 60ft but missed the 2-3 upshift...

On all my runs, I launched between 4,000-5,000rpms with some clutch slip. I'm car #802:

I was talking to an '02 WRX owner at the track and he mentioned that when he had a bov & TBE but was otherwise stock he trapped at 97mph and was able to run a low 13.7 - he was very impressed to see the 2.5L WRXs running so strong from the factory. While I didn't flat-foot shift my car, 95% of my shifting tonight was extremely fast & crisp. I netted my fastest traps & et's with upshifts at: 1-2 6,500rpms, 2-3 6,400rpms, 3-4 6,250rpms.

Here's a couple of pics showing my car in the pits, staging lanes and a shot of my 'factory-stock' engine bay.

i bet LGT shift knob has helped ;)

LOL! Yeah, I have your former LGT shift knob and I swapped tail lights with an '05 STI owner. I also didn't take out the relatively thick all-weather Subaru rubber mats.

Looking good :)

Are you going to mod?

Not anytime soon. I'm competing for a full season in SCCA D-stock. When I have some extra money I'm going to spring for better tires and maybe a racing harness.

Nice times. Those look like good solid numbers for a stock 06. A nice improvement from the 05s mid 14 1/4s.

With some more practice im sure you could get that thing into the 13.9xs!

That's the thing, on my one run where I got a 1.91 60ft, my split at the 330ft mark was .14 faster than on my 14.01 run. If I hadn't botched the 2-3 shift, I could have had an e.t. of 13.8x...

Here's a scanned pic of my fastest e.t. as well as the one from the run where I got the 1.9 60ft but missed the 2-3 upshift:

Good looking car.

Strong performance for a stock WRX. The 2.5 is a definite improvement, and I'll bet it handles better than my Legacy, too.

Thanks.

I test drove a LGT when doing my test drive of the '06 WRX. Both cas are terrific, but yes I noticed a bit more lean in the turns with the LGT - seems like the shocks & springs are tuned for a more tuned for a more comfortable ride.

Of course, with stickier tires, a RSB and good springs, lean is significantly reduced. But, the LGT will never handle like a WRX despite the mods. I love my LGT, but I do sometimes miss the go cart handling of my former WRX....so much so that I am intrigued by this STI Ltd model we've been hearing about.

Good numbers and beautiful car Chiketkd. Enjoy!
