Enjoy the car and treat her well :), I know I have thoroughly enjoyed mine.

Any time you go on a forum posting "my parents just bought me..." you are going to see these kind of results. Different strokes for different folks. My first car was a 1986 subaru turbo sedan that I paid 1500 for after saving for 2 years. Would I have taken a new car if my parents thought it was right to get for me, hell yes!!! Would I have felt bad about it, hell no!!!

Have fun and be safe in your new ride.

+2 for no oem spoiler, i hate mine.

Earn it. You'll appriciate everything in life so much more. I mean, **** - they bought you a car, now you have to be "indebted" to them, or feel you owe them something, or they can bring it back on you one day... I mean, not saying it will happen, but what is yours, should be earned by you.

I'd say you should stick with your old car until you've made enough outta school to buy your own. That'd be the right thing to do.

Sorry to be so harsh - but this is one of my peeves. You sound gracious, FOR NOW...but in a year, will you just be a spoiled kid?

people are going to burn tires on me for saying this, but i have really had second thoughts about whether to get the Legacy or not, my car, that i had right now, ran good, only the head gaskets cracked reciently, thank you for super cold winter to do that. we got that fixed, and it still runs good, its just 10 years old. idk. i didnt really want to ask my mom and dad to spend that kind of money, but they said they were willing with my good grades and getting into college. the price was good and the options on it cant be beat. i didnt get a BMW or Merc, i dont flaunt money in front of people, that just doesnt make you friends. However if my parents are willing to buy me the car, im not going to argue. and like i said, this car is going to have to last me 10 years.
I'm pleasantly surprised... It was most certainly worth the couple bucks and 10 mins of my time.

ookkk ... well ... this has been very interesting

Yes it has, and it's not cool. Any more posts in this thread even verging on a personal attack will be deleted.

Congratulations on your new car AWD_Rules3830 and judging by how much crap you've had to take in this thread and taken it on your chin, you'll be fine. Remember the 1,000 mile break in period, it's a good way to get a feel for the potential of the vehicle. You'll want to let her go, we all do, but it's a good introduction to the car if you don't.

Dave.

Congrats on the new car, enjoy it and don't listen to the pricks - the people who know what they're talking about around here won't spend their time giving you a hard time about your age... it's the ones who have nothing else to contribute to the forum that do that.

Seriously guys who cares if his dad bought him a car. All of you are just jealous and you know it. I'm 100% positive if any of your dads had offered to buy you a new subaru each and everyone one of you would have taken him up on it.

Only thing I'm worried about is his "fast" getting the best of him. Yea... I hate that VW commercial! Be safe man... although I don't often listen to my own advice.

I got my new Legacy for having straight A's my Senior year. Though it was used and I did pay for various different things. However, the BD body style is my favorite so I am not complaining at all. I love my red. hehe

That is great! I got a rusty Dodge Aries K car when I got my license. Then I bought a Saturn which I thought was the bomb. Back then...

For sure. I got a 1981 butt brown Ford Escort that I had to pay for. I wonder what it would have been like to own a new car at 17. I worked two jobs at 19 to get my first new car.

Gratz!!!!!

I think its awesome your dad bought you the car!! My dad bought me my WRX 4 years ago just cuz he felt guilty that he never bought me even a beater in high school. Why did he feel guilty? Because by the time my sister was a senior in high school he had bought her 2 brand new BMW's for her, she didnt like the first one. Although she did get a full ride scholarship for both high school and college, I only got partial...lol....

I think its great for a parent to reward their kids as long as they are responsible and mature. Also, I was 31 and married when my father bought the WRX for me, it was a gift I couldnt refuse.... Of couse I've moved on to a Spec b, but oh how I loved the WRX...

Gratz again...

Congrats! I learned how to drive stick on mine as well. I guess if the LGT is a difficult clutch/engine to learn on, I would not have known the difference. It will just make us better drivers on the "easier" MT's out there. Even if I didn't get the GT and got the 2.5i instead, I still think I'd be having a ball just because of the MT over that old dog of a 4cyl AT 93 Accord I drove for the past 8 years.

Keep practicing and you'll do great. Gotta love the looks from people in parking lots when you grind the gears going into reverse and there you are sitting in a brand new shiny car.

Big congrats on the GT!! Niiice reward for hard work and good grades. My first car was given to me by my uncle, '67 Dodge Dart slant six, 3 speed on the column!! Needed ball joints, exhaust, etc. :( Ahh well, it was free and that's what I learned to drive on! Anyway ENJOY!!

You can't speel, so they give you a goddamn new car and pay for all your college at a expensive university?!?!

As for HOGGY, speel? Maybe you need to check your "speeling" before you go on a "flame-rant" on the new folks. Just a thought though. Did you use "Speel check?"

Congrats on the good grades, and I hope you enjoy the car.

Lincoln should be flat enough not to be too bad with learning the manual trans. Smooth shifting leads to faster gear changes. Give it some time for your muscle-memory to take effect, then you'll be shifting without thinking about the actions of it.

Once you have it down, then go find some twisties over by nebraska city... I wish central Iowa had some roads like those.

I grew up in SW Iowa, and spend some time in eastern nebraska, and my wife is from the Fremont, NE area, so I know the area around there a bit.

I have to second the notion to kybosh the stock spoiler, and get a flush mounted lip spoiler, but that is my taste, perhaps yours is different.

Good luck, search, ask questions, and HAVE FUN. Try not to take the rants personally. They say more about the authors' frustrations than they do about your situation; which is unique to you, regardless of whether other people agree or disagree with the circumstances.
