goBlue
never mind, please forget my previous questions. finally got my install done. big thanks to Laz for his help. ended up drilling the caps, which was less painful than i thought. a few things i wanted to add to the posted install guide on pimpmyauto.com. the biggest difference between my apexcone kit and the xtec kit was that in step 7, where he had to pull out the stock grommet to plug in the +/-, this step was unnecessary for the apexcone kit. because the +/- wires are attached the bulb, you only need to plug those in and tuck them away in the housing. as for drilling, 1' drill bit (for wood) would be perfect for this job. i thought about putting silicon around each cap hole to seal it but then i realized how often does that part of the car get wet? also i had to break the clear plastic base that used to be attached to the protection case. i wish they designed something that was a little easier to remove when needed. there was also a black rubbery base under the clear base, i left that one in there even though it's somewhat unnecessary. the instructions that came with kit were somewhat cryptic and lack pictures. apexcone definitely needs to improve that. anyway, great install guide! thanks everyone for such awesome info! Machine Age Victim
here's a little write up on using the DDM kit without cutting First take off the plastic cap from behind the bulb. Unplug the bulb. Follow the wires to the rubber grommet and pull it out, the bulb socket will come out too if you turn it sideways. This is what it looks like out of the headlight housing. http://img413.imageshack.us/img413/7851/headlight1si0.jpg Pull the blue and black wires (with the flat metal ends) out from the rubber grommet that comes with the kit. Now take the old bulb out and put the new bulb in. Route the wires from the bulb through the hole from the stock rubber grommet. Now this is the tricky part. Use a little water to help lube the DDM rubber grommet and work it into the hole in the headlight housing. Should look like this. http://img253.imageshack.us/img253/2863/headlight2uj3.jpg Now plug the two wires you pulled out from the DDM grommet into the stock socket (blue to pink and black to black), you may need to take apart the socket to close the clamps a little more to keep the metal ends from coming out. Then tape it up and it will look like this. http://img512.imageshack.us/img512/9350/headlight3jl4.jpg Once you've done that tape up two holes in the DDM rubber grommet and mount your ballast (I found that the frame under the fenders works good) tape them down and use the zip ties (may want to do this before you connect all the wires so you can route them behind the frame). Plug the bulb wires into the ballast. The wires should look like this when done http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/6652/headlight4ia6.jpg Now tuck the wires into the fender and you're good to go
