andersoncollectibles
They just seem so expensive to me for what you are actually getting.. yeah its a go-cart.. for that price.. eeh.. just doesnt seem worth it to me. But, I have never driven one, so I can't honestly say it woudnt be fun to have one. For European driving, its perfect.... tiny streets, tiny parking areas.. you need a tiny car. I dont really think i would want to take something so little out on the Autobahn or even on a "country" drive though. Can knock it til you try it I guess huh? PGT
BMW has reinvented the rules about pricing and content in a small car. Not everybody wants a Caddy in order to get climate control, leather, upgraded sound, etc. The Mini has a better safety rating than vehicles much larger (note the position of the dummy in the Ford F150): http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y124/PatagonianGT/Mini-CooperversusF150Wreck.jpg As for the S/C whine, you don't get it on the highway, only full throttle romps. The new turbo version is intended to silence this criticism anyways. We put a Dinan airbox on ours, so the S/C whine and intake howl is amplified.... It's a cacophany of noise when you mash the pedal. My fiancee loves it. As for cost, her car cost $5K more than mine. Cooper S convertible with NAV and every option besides leather, ACC and the H/K audio. In many ways, the Mini is nicer - better lighting, NAV, solid doors, steering wheel controls, etc. Subaru didn't even offer those as options on my car. Garandman
//The Mini has a better safety rating than vehicles much larger (note the position of the dummy in the Ford F150):// In fairness it should be noted that data pertains to the prior version of the F150, which was redesigned in 2004. http://www.bridger.us/2002/12/16/CrashTestingMINICooperVsFordF150 I don't plan to do any crash testing..... PGT
my point was that just because the Mini is small doesn't mean it's unsafe. There are 1000x that model F150 on the road for every Mini, so it's a relevant point. I don't plan to do any crash testing..... nobody ever does, but good to know BMW thought about safety when designing a tiny car. Hard to say that about others in the class.
