DrD123
Well, I think we have a contender here... looks like VLEDS has released an LED bulb which instead of running full power all the time, the beams run at 800 lumens when they see DRL voltage (<10V) and full brightness (2500 lumens) when they see normal operating voltage... (this is different than the pulse-width modulation solution which has been available for a bit - these are specifically for constant voltage applications) Seriously considering this set... https://www.vleds.com/shop-application/application-high-beam/9005-low-voltage-daytime-running-light/micro-limited-9005-low-voltage-daytime-running-light.html

DrD123
I have had their micro evolution extreme LEDs for my low beams for a little over a year and a half - they are great. They have said something like this (the DRL one) was coming for a while now, so I check every now and then.
Humble Rumble
Everything VLEDs makes is top level. I'm hoping they have an option to add this module to people that already have their bulbs rather than having to buy whole new bulbs. I'm almost certain they did, just have to do a little digging. 2012 Legacy 3.6R Build Thread 5th Gen Legacy BM/BR Body Kit Compendium Thread
boxkita
25yrs in business and based in bellingham? I might have run into them about a decade ago at a subie show. kind of curious if they can make some custom stuff, too. gb? Humble Rumble
You're using their bulbs for high beams? Have been running their Micro Limiteds in my high beams for about 2 years now. Yes, the DRL runs at full power, but I opted for their 3000K Ion Yellow ones so that it's not as obnoxious as 6000K in the daytime. They function awesome and the color is brilliant. I've also had my lights wrapped Lamin-X yellow this year as well, so the color is even more intense yellow but also a tad reduced brightness from prior as well. Still bright enough to change the color of nearby road signs to a yellowish hue in daytime, but also not blinding like an un-wrapped 6000K highbeam would be in the daylight. Fantastic product, doubly soo if they've finally sorted proper DRL function. 2019: 2021: 2012 Legacy 3.6R Build Thread 5th Gen Legacy BM/BR Body Kit Compendium Thread
pseudonym
Quick question for anyone who knows...am I correct in assuming that what was linked above is the same as the standard vled that most in this thread have used but with an attachment for the DRL? Meaning, if I bought a set of these, would I be able to attach the DRL attachment to my old vleds in order to have a newer set of vleds in the area that burns out the quickest? That's what we're unsure of. To my knowledge, no one here has used a set of the DRL VLEDs, and some of the pictures make it appear as a plug and play module while others make it appear wired in-line, so it requires some research and clarification from VLED if it can be used on older bulbs. 2012 Legacy 3.6R Build Thread 5th Gen Legacy BM/BR Body Kit Compendium Thread

I also run vleds in my DRL like corey Edited July 22, 2021 by testa422
DrD123
I think the bulb/LED is the same, but from their website, for both the driver is hardwired to the bulb (no idea how easy it is to open/remove/replace) and the driver definitely looks different (and is labelled differently on their website) - they also some other stuff that comes with it - a second harness for each side, along with an anti-flicker/error cancelling resistor. The new ballast looks like you could disassemble it, but there could be adhesive in addition to the screws. regular version - https://www.vleds.com/shop-products/led-headlights/micro-limited-9005.html DRL version - https://www.vleds.com/shop-application/application-high-beam/9005-low-voltage-daytime-running-light/micro-limited-9005-low-voltage-daytime-running-light.html

DrD123
Well, I went ahead and got a set - need to install it, but for that need to sort where I want to put the driver and the resistor. For you guys that already are running the LEDs in the high beam, where did you put it - just zip tie it to the light harness? (for the lows, everything fit inside the headlight itself - obviously not something you can do for the highs/DRLs!)

DrD123
Ok sounds like a plan Another option I came across that is supposed to work for low voltage DRLs is the Morimoto 2stroke 3.0 - more expensive than the VLEDS, but doesn't have the separate resistor. I'm sort of curious what the external resistor does - I imagine it's used to step the voltage, but I am not sure why or what the morimoto does so that they don't need a separate power resistor (I am guessing based on the heat sink, vleds puts a bunch of current through it)
KazeSupra
I bought damn near the whole from setup from VLED (low beams, high beam/DRL, and fog lights). I wish I would’ve taken before pics, because it’s so dramatic when compared to the stock ones. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. KazeSupra
Alright, so here’s the “against the garage” pics. I took one of the controllers out so you can see the brights vs DRL mode. They’re pointed in the same direction, but it’s supposed to be 800 lumens with the controller in DRL mode, 2500 as high beams. DrD123
So by controller, you mean the resistor, right? (I've had mine for a bit, but haven't gotten around to installing them yet) - where did you mount the resistors? I was looking at putting them on the brackets and have them attached to one of the headlight mounting bolts, but need to pull the bumper to get to it (or slot the bracket... I might do that) - weekends have been tied up for a bit, so just haven't had a chance!
