Zac88
Is it possible to replace the front LCA bushings without a press? Also without removing the whole arm? Balljoint will not budge after 15 years and a lot of road salt
boxkita
Balljoint is shot and needs to be replaced. buy a new spindle and get the rockauto front lca which comes prepopulated. so much easier. You can do the swap in your driveway, no press needed. Build my car Boxkita Track days
Max Capacity
Have to agree, It's easier/cheaper to just replace the spindle then pay the shop for the labor to remove that PITA ball joint. My trusted mechanic learned that on my car. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD). CHECK your oil, these cars use it. bdcvg
I just got great condition used spindles off ebay and used the rock-auto Moog replacement arms with bushings. Buy ball joints and throw old stuff in recycle bin.
outahere
Is it possible to replace the front LCA bushings without a press?... Yes, with a Snap-on tool https://shop.snapon.com/product/Ball-Joint-Presses/4-pc-BJP1-Subaru-Bushing-Kit-(Black)/BJP1-BKS Edited March 24, 2021 by outahere
socalsleeper
Gotta love my rust free car! When I tore down my front end it all popped off with out a hitch. I got new aluminum control arms with new bushings and ball joints. I replaced the ball joint with the whiteline unit but that is not necessary for just normal maintenance. If you want to do it yourself take the arm with the new bushing to a shop that deals with Japanese cars at a minimum (if you can find a subaru specialist even better), they should have the right sleeves to press out the bushing no problem. I would not recommend it at home without a press or the pricey special tool from Snap-on/Matco, or MAC. BUT if you feeling especially motivated and have some anger issues to vent you can burn/cut out the rubber and collapse the metal sleeve with a hammer and a set of chisels and punches to get the old bushing out. I have done this, it is not fun I would not advise anyone to do this. Remember when you put things back together anti-seize is your friend!!! rhino6303
I have two different "press" tools that I've used successfully. The harbor freight hub shark and the harbor freight ball joint/ujoint remover. The only part about the hub shark tool I've replaced is the nut and bolt. Claw
I signed on to see this. My neighbor asked if I can do the LCA bushings on his RVR with him. I need to do my LCAs this spring/summer too.
