2005 Subaru Legacy GT Limited Wagon (~143,000 miles)

Good jumping off point for someone looking to add power.

I am the second owner. I took this car over with about 95k on it.

It was not running (no clutch) when I purchased it; almost everything has been replaced as each OEM part failed.

Has some body dings etc, a small patch of rust on the front of the rear fender that should be addressed sooner rather than later to prevent it from spreading.

Have had some small accidents and some body work. Over all looks pretty good.

Consumes about 1qt every 1,000 miles... Not great, but not uncommon for this motor as Subaru likes to say. Banjo filters were removed shortly after I took ownership.

I also have some other goodies that are not on the car and considering making it part of the package... so the price is pretty negotiable depending on what you want to include.

example:

I have a set of Michelin PS tires mounted on 18" x 8.5" WED SPORT wheels.

Photos posted... additional details coming soon.

I purchased this car from an auction many years ago. Clutch and dual mass flywheel were toast; I replaced those, and about 2 years ago had the DCCD STI transmission installed by Surgeline in OR.

Most aftermarket parts were added as the OEM parts began to fail.

  • 4 weeks later...

I think the price is a fair asking price for the car.

The issue is most people who want a $11,000 15 year old Subaru don't have 11k cash laying around to buy it.

I sold my 86' inboard boat this past summer and I was shocked when I had people trying to get a 5k loan on it, so they needed to prove the value to their bank for a loan. There's no way a bank would approve 11k for this car so you pretty much need a cash buyer.

needs work seems to slow buyers a bit. Some of these items have high dollar price tags. On the plus side, the car has alot of checkbox items on it.

Bilstien PSS coils( need rebuild)

Consumes about 1qt every 1,000 miles

AL LCA (bushers are bad)

Tan Leather Interior - tan is not a high value color

(driver seat cushion has a tear)

Has some body dings etc (no pics, so hard to guess cost to fix)

you convinced me sir $10k is a more fair base asking.

as you identified and i agree:

It has some cosmetic issues, torn driver seat ,small dings etc. I will try to get some additional photos posted shortly.

If i did have a fair buyer I could also look into replacing the LCA's... resolve the bushing issue.

I am actually only looking to 'sell' for $1... the remaining difference would be a kind donation.

The 2015 transmission conversion alone is worth about $5k+

The car is fun... and ready for all the fun stuff. power, fuel system, tuning, etc.

Sorry not trying to rain on your parade. Lgt never were valued like sti, unfortunately. Even with nice stuff on board. The pw intercooler was a 1000-1500 upgrade depending on extra features.

The needs work items are pain in the butt things to fix. Recent 5 digit sellers have pretty much been turn-key, nothing needed cars.

The tan interior is 600-1200 to fix but fixes the driver seat issue

The lca bushings are labor intensive plus 200-500 in parts to fix

The struts are 50-400 to fix depending on rebuild requirements

The body work & rust is problematic as bump out and respray of the swp is tough to color match against 15 yo paint. Lately, resprays are full car. Rust fixes depends on what else shows up.

Ask 10k. Put up a lot more pics. Interior? driver seat? outside dings? Rust spots?

Figure out your option package. Then photograph with those options.

Yup a good base to start from for a fun car but the mechanical issues, namely the motor, are slowing your sale. If your going thru a quart of oil every 1k mi, that’s no bueno. At that mileage, particularly with the wick turned up, most informed buyers acknowledge that it needs a new motor and that’s gonna be costly. Edited by shralp

IF i were looking to tune, i wouldn't waste much energy on a used motor. get a new short block, new turbo, all the fun bits, and there, now you have a race car.

I suspect the oil consumption is more the turbo rather than the motor.

It seems many seek power before stability, i must do things backwards.

Regarding the coils, can't comment on a local quote. I would contact the manufacture for a quote.

Coils are currently off, and running OEM struts.
