Tehnation
I bought a new oil pan and it came with this magnet thing. I don't think I had one in my old oil pan, must be a newer model. Anyone know where the magnet goes?
Nonamedude
Huh. Didn't get one of those with the pan I bought a year ago. I thought magnets didn't really help us cuz everything is aluminum? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Tehnation
only the outside stuff, the moving parts aren't aluminum and the moving parts are where you get the particles. Your crankshaft and camshaft position sensors work via magnets. Maybe it just stuck to the oil pan and is from something else...
blackobxt
I don’t think my oil pan is even a year old and I know I didn’t get any magnets. Maybe they accidentally threw in someone else’s parts when they gave you yours?
Tehnation
i was taking the plastic off and it fell... so I'm not sure where it came from, i only noticed after I ripped the plastic and i heard something fall. hmmm.... let me get into csi mode... From what I gathered this would imply that the magnet was on the outside of the plastic and it fell because I pulled the oil pan out of the plastic, which forced the magnet to separate from the pan. Meaning that the magnet was on the outside of the plastic and is not actually supposed to be there.
Tehnation
Now I want a magnetic oil plug... https://www.amazon.com/GENUINE-MAGNETIC-32103KA000-FORESTER-IMPREZA/dp/B00N3XORGY Anyone know if this would fit our stock oil plug?
blackobxt
Well, in that case you better grab the nearest pigeon. Only Mike Tyson can solve this mystery.

Max Capacity
I'd guess that one that fell out was a mistake. The one for $6.00, might as well buy it and try it next oil change. It's only $6.00 The write up says it fits. I use the Fumoto oil drain valves, may be to their site and verify that all the cars listed in the Amazon link use the same drain plug. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. Tehnation
got the oil drain plug today. its shorter, but everything else is the same. Hopefully it will work, but I don't think the length should be a problem. Will try it out soon, I plan to change the oil in the next couple of days. Stay tuned! Part number is 32103KA000 Edited July 22, 2020 by Tehnation
Tehnation
I forgot I had the old pan, after trying both I can see that it lets more room in the dome that covers the bolt. It may let more oil pass through that lil galley and maybe catch more material. Not sure on the physics. The stock bolt covers the outside holes. I think the shorter length is better for the magnet. What do you guys think? Edited July 22, 2020 by Tehnation

Chocoholic005
It may let more oil pass through that lil galley and maybe catch more material. This is exactly why its shorter.
