My wife is getting my son and I a joint bday ps5... But hasn't been able to find one. I told her that if she gets one we're flipping it. Lol

Even the switch is going for a premium.

Yeah, my wife wants a Switch all of a sudden and wants me to look for a deal.

I don't think a deal is happening...

Thought so.....but had to ask. I don't follow that stuff. My kids asked for a Switch. I promptly reminded them of all the other electronic junk they have and don't use frequently enough to justify another system. That conversation was short lol.

This is the first year where my kid has asked for something that costs more than $30.... Made it to 8 yo. Had a good run at it.

Fulton - I ended up getting the Switch via Target online. I'd definitely try there. Keep checking this week. They go in and out of stock. Their BF deal is the bundle with the game. Same at all the other retailers, but their BF deal is live.

My neighbors are going crazy trying to find a PS5, I think my wife said they already got the new xbox.

I honestly don't see what the rush is, other than COD, there's barely any games and lots of problems.

The warranty return/failure rate in electronics is usually less 10%, the Xbox 360 Red Ring 'O death problem I believe exceeded that if memory serves me correctly. It will be interesting to see how high that return rate goes for the PS5 but right now it isn't looking good.

Also a dedicated gaming computer is so much more versatile me thinks.

But whatever

I've had a computer since I was 11 years old. I used to game a lot when I was younger. The seamlessness of a pure gaming console in comparison to a PC is nice. sure gaming consoles typically have some issues, but as the kinks get worked out, they are pretty flawless. You can’t tell me that a PC doesn’t lock up, get a virus, or have other issues along the way. Given the price difference and the ease of use, I’d rather go with a gaming console. With that being said, there are exceptions to certain games that are better played on a PC. But they are few and far between. Add the caveat that you have kids in the house, and a console system is even more of a slam dunk idea. I’ve had my PS4 for six years now, and have never had one issue with it.

You get what you pay for. Yes they are better, yes they are more versatile, but you can't buy a decent gaming PC for $399. Which is the price of both new systems (no-disc option)

I did say more versatile. But you can still game for a few years if you bet some decent hardware. And after gaming it can be used for other things.

Windows 10 has really matured over the years. It is true that it’s not perfect but you will not get a virus from gaming. You can also set parental controls through a free Microsoft account so that only you can het to the pr0n. Where they excel is at multiple monitors setup and being able to watch tutorials while playing or even streaming your game or recording it for future viewing. If you want to do that with your console you still need a pc for that.

As your kid gets older he may it may not want one, but chances are you will get one.

I run a service where kids get all their hardware that they can afford and I help them build it so that they learn about PC’s in general. It’s amazing that it runs 50/50 male/female and funny enough the girls usually buy the better hardware with less eye candy.

I take pride in building the PC with them and teach them something useful. It’s a rewarding thing to do for me while still getting my paid.

You get what you pay for is for sure the right terminology. Not enough cooling for a massive graphics card. Heat is the enemy of all modern consoles. PC’s as well but you can building them to run super cool.

Also running games at 144hz makes the games look amazing.

Not bashing the consoles, but they are more limited although more affordable.

The idea of my PC is almost foreign to my kids, who once asked me what a computer was. "Dad, is that like a chromebook or something?" But they can use my xbox, navigate all the menus with no issues, JJ said ease of use is a factor and I agree.

I'm looking forward to massive expansion coming to Elite Dangerous called Odyssey which will add First Person combat and other on-foot elements, basically they are adding a whole new game within a game, like inserting Call of Duty into a space game. It'll probably run on Xbox One, but I could see getting a series X for optimal performance.

Bang for the bucks is better for the Miata.

What's that saying?

"More fun to drive a slow car fast, than a fast car slow."

But with anything there are exceptions.

I love to row through the gears and just redline it and still not get attention from the popo.

This goes against my argument here, but it's like saying what's more fun? Watching porn or having sex?

I think sex wins every time.

As kids grow older their perception of technology changes.

Not for all of them, but I would say probably half.

The biggest game changer is the Discord service. It brings game playing to a different interactive level.

Hard to do it on the xbox with its limited support and non existent on the PS5.

I do think you can fully use it on the Wii though. :hide:

The only real issue my wife's gaming PC has had is when the cheap OCZ SSD I put in to store all her Steam games died. And the damn thing is 5 years old now. No viruses, no lockups. And a third of the parts are twice that old and were well used already. Plus, if a gaming PC does have issues, they're usually pretty easy to fix. No so much so with consoles.

Yes, Discord is a huge thing. She uses it extensively.

Sure. She's an adult woman. Put a male in front of a pc and see if it's still virus free

I think you're either a pc gamer or not. Virtually everyone I know that plays video games, plays Madden, COD, NBA. Etc. All on consoles. I have always been a pc guy, and though Ive played some pc games, I've always played a console mostly. I guess I don't know a lot of pc gamers.

The games we play the most are also not available on pc. It's also hard to have family time in a home office, crowded around a smaller screen.

You can plug in your pc to the big screen.

I just build them and fix them and see the trends.

I actually don’t play any games so WTF do I know!

But I do know hardware.

Fulton SP makes decent SSD hard drives.
